It’s been years. Can someone tell me why random stuff in the AH gets hyper overpriced? Example: An enchant that runs 200g will be posted for 4,000,000g. What’s the point of this?
People seeing which suckers bite.
In Classic also a possible sign of rmt masking.
The seller says post item x at stupid price. And the seller then buys it and goes oops….I bought a 20 silver item for 3000 gold. Silly me…
Not sure how common in retail that is.
My guess is selling gold while making it look like a legit transaction.
Remember that just because some random decides to LIST something for 4 million gold, doesn’t mean it’s actually going to SELL for 4 million gold. Or sell at all.
I could go list a healing potion right now for 10 million gold. But nobody will buy it.
Doesn’t this mess with auction addons too? People list something for 4,000,000 gold. Then they list the same item for 3,000 gold. AH addon thinks it’s a massive deal when in reality the item was originally listed for like 1,500 or something.
It’s for 3rd party gold sellers
That’s how they used to send the money back in the day before the WoW token
They’d tell you what to list and @ what price and they’d buy it
Or so I heard
Yes and that’s why I do it! If I list my rare item for 10m and it’s the only one being sold, the 3day 7day and 14day prices become so beautiful
That’s very evil. I knew Gnomes were evil!
Only this one and a few others and then a lot more others.
Can’t get a refund for a misclick, plus I’ve always assumed its a way to send gold legit when you’re RMT-ing.
In my BoD guild, one of the officers accidentally bought a single vantus rune for 425k
Much like with the US government printing money hand over fist, Blizzard sells gold to players, thus increasing the money supply. More money supply means higher prices. It’s called inflation. This is the simplified version, do some research on inflation. “Basic Economics” by Thomas Sowell is a good place to start.
That’s not how selling gold works at all. It moves between players; gold has been created out of thin air for a token 0 times.
Most definitely. I do it all the time.
Well, not exactly. I don’t overlist to try to trick them, but if I see somebody’s bot fighting for listings with me, I undercut them massively so their bot will buy my item since it’s “such a great deal”.
That way, I have money in my pocket. And they have my item that - surprise! - I was having trouble selling to a real person anyway.
Welcome to tricking sniper andies that have a bot buying those deals
Keep telling yourself that.
As many others have said, it’s a good buying method
This is what I thought the reason was. It moves up the market average price for the item.
Folks do it because doing so messes with Auction addons like Trademaster and Auction avg pricing addons like Oribos Exchange.
And when I can snag underpriced listing like that I thank you too!
I’ve also seen people use the AH for extra storage and put the price so crazy no one will buy it and if they do well they have lots of gold now.
