Why the Maw is a Failure as a Zone

Yeah! That one threw me - why would they make content that punishes you for playing? /dont-get-it

I stopped doing the maw really early in the xpac and don’t miss it. I did go and do just the 5 souls thing a few times, and even that was mostly just annoying.

The phasing thing is lame, for sure. You have to go to the Maw to get the quests, go back to Oribos to get a group, then go back to the Maw to do the quest. That’s really dumb design.

Everything else in the zone, to me, is tolerable. The penalty for dying…the inhospitable, overall unpleasant feel…the difficulty in getting around…the increasing danger the longer you stay in there; none of that bothers me terribly.

This is what I mean, moving the goalposts. My DH would have a word. BIS leggo - Castle Naltharia. Second best leggo currently is broken/glitched and does not work.

Not for all slots, most classes are missing between 2-4 appropriate pieces, forcing you into Mythics or otherwise.

Like I said originally, forced PvE content to be competitive. It’s almost like my original comment was completely accurate.

And the point of the OP is that deliberately making a game this way is piss poor design.

Protip. Join a maw rare zerg raid. In and out in 20min with zero chance of death. 5 GTA stars and it’s like the zone got deleted.

You can complete your daily quests in a raid?

Dailies, no. But I did the math. A maw zerg raid gives roughly the same amount of rep and Stygia in a far shorter timespan with zero risk of dying. The only thing it can’t match is the Venari weekly quests. Plus you can knockout achieves and rare drops off the bosses.

Its awful when youre the one dying sure other than that its awesome

The Maw one of the most amazing zones I’ve ever seen in a game. If you can’t appreciate it then you really need to find a different game.

(and, yes, you can find it both frustrating and appreciate it at the same time)

it’s literally warcraft hell lmao

some people

Bruh are you aware of what kind of game you are playing???

I must agree with myself.

Don’t really have much to add to this forum thread other than I know Asmongold was saying that he knew the Maw was extremly rushed. To the point that the art team was scrammbling to put it together, and he showed little clips of how the zone was put together and it was like mad dash snap, glue, cut and paste.

I honestly feel bad for Blizzard, I know a lot of people blame them but it can’t be easy for them. I wish they figure it out better and have an easier time of it in the future, for their sakes and the players.

The kind of game that punishes grouping by phasing everyone until they leave the Maw and meet at Oribos?

i actually rather enjoy the maw. go in, do your stuff, get out. i find it anything but tedious. be efficient, use the portals, you can be done in no time. if you manage to hit 5/5 with 10 stacks before you’re done… well think of it as an early out.

and the timers and the fear fear fear and the lagg i got 5 k laptop go in maw lagg and i got super fast net

Agreed. I’d be surprised if they don’t do something whether that be an Overhaul or rework… with the Maw for 9.1. Definitely needs it, as a centerpiece for this expansion. (Assuming it’ll stay that way.)

I would say it’s extremely successful as a zone. Go in game, right now. Go in there. It’s right there. Being a zone. You can zone in, you can zone out. Every day the Maw be zonin’.

I still can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually kinda like Torghast, compared to the Maw. At least in Torghast, I’m not bothered by the stupid eye of the Jailer mechanics, and can usually manage to recuperate after a tough battle, without interruption. Plus, after having to fight so many OP enemies outside, it’s nice to be the OP one myself for a change. And even with the added powers, the bosses still put up a decent enough fight.

I rather enjoy the Maw once i get started on the ‘daily’ grind. Its even more interesting and sometimes infuriating trying to complete the dailies after the daily boss tour.
