do people play an MMORPG then complain about grinding
That’s, like, literally the whole point of an MMORPG I thought? Or at least, a big big facet of them?
I dun get it. This game has always been grindy and it’s nuthin like some other MMO’s out there on that grind.
It’s dead now, but Aion’s grind was ludicrous. Grind for months for rare crafting drops to create a BiS piece of gear, but it’s only BiS if it procs, and if it doesn’t proc, your item is worthless and you gotta grind for the rare mats again.
That game was always dead, probably because of systems like that. Grinding is okay, when there’s a deterministic reward, and a clear end point. That’s why I don’t mind grinding stuff like reputation, etc.
Grinding stuff like azerite power, or benthic gear with sockets, is something i refuse to do. WoW has never been one of those grind until you die MMORPGS.
Sounds like you’re adverse to grinds in general, which would confuse me since we’re posting on an MMORPG forum. And FF14 isn’t as popular as WoW but it’s closing in pretty fast, its growth has been explosive especially since the new expansion.
I totally agree with you on this. Azerite power or however else you wanna flavor it as is really silly. It’s obviously a treadmill. I do criticize this system.
Think about when you prepare a meal. Anyone can throw some slop down on a plate. Presentation matters.
In the past blizzard has managed to dress up grinds in interesting or clever ways. That’s no where to be found here. It just feels like arbitrary chores to finally fly a year later. I’m not even done with it yet cause I can hardly bring myself to log in and knock them out. That’s how uninteresting they are to me right now.
Agreed, MMO have always been grinds. Getting loot was a crap shoot. I played EQ, and the grind was ridiculous. But I loved it. I’d go a month without an upgrade. As drops were total luck. I remember doing both my epic weapons and the work that went into them. people need to decide if MMO’s are for them, not if the MMO are for people. it takes a certain group of players. The rest need to look into call of duty.
Darling, it comes down to the simple subjective question…is the grind worth your time? Korean grinders like Aion don’t last that long partly because of the grind dear.
This is the key. When Blizzard sprinkles in RNG at every step of the way, that’s when they lose their core MMORPG fanbase. I don’t play this game to fuel a gambling addiction.
As a hobbyist cook, yeah I can see this. Attunement grinds were the example I related it to but they were actually kinda cool? Like, you got a chunk of lore to go along with that attunement, and it was kind of a prestigious thing. Like, HELL YEAH I CAN TELEPORT TO MOLTEN CORE. DAMN RIGHT I GOT A KEY TO SHATTERED HALLS.
I can’t comment on this in a logical and straightforward manner because I don’t really care about flying outside of leveling through content I’ve already seen. I actually like running around on my ground mount. So I’m weird. I can see how Pathfinder is frustrating as hell for people who like to fly though.
What part of the game, beyond actual group content, requires you to be in a group to grind out successfully? Am confuzzled.
You’re making a strawman. I pointed out another successful game, perhaps even at this point could be considered wildly successful as its growth has been truly exponential, as a counter-conjecture to the fact that grinds kill games. You state that there’s a correlation to the game’s lack of popularity, which is fallacious as it’s patently false, and then pointed to a point that I already concede on. My point still stands- FF14 is a grindy game that is absolutely competitive with WoW, which makes your point ambiguous at best? Maybe I’m misreading.
