I don’t understand why so many people on the forums are against the idea of a solo queue.
- It doesn’t make it easier to rank. Premaded groups that are good will still win games far faster against other premades than most pug vs pug matches on average. However, we do expect queue times for premades to increase. Hence we should incentivize premade games to give more honor.
- It doesn’t take away the social aspect of the game. Pug games are extremely social. The main reason we see pug games being anti-social right now is due to rampant premades defeating their will to try. You also still have the option to premade, you just won’t have an unfair advantage.
- Queue times. We don’t have the numbers on our end, but this would bring on a lot more players on both factions to try out PvP. Solo queue times would be drastically lower. Premade times would be much higher but much more competitive.
- It was always this way? No. Solo queue definitely resembles Vanilla, where most people played solo. We now have wargames for the competitive scene too.

solo queuers dont understand the relatively difficult task this is for blizz devs to undertake. would you even trust them with it anyway?
Im not for or against a solo queue but if the solution to fighting premades is to premade yourself then you should take the solution rather than expecting Blizzard to hold your hand.
I’ve participated in a great deal of premading. This doesn’t address the opportunity here to make a casual solo queue bracket.

My main problem with it is that I played in the early AV days and all horde solo queued AV and world pvped between queues. It was terrible. I could not longer PVP with my world PVP friends. AV was toxic all the time and you were never with anyone you knew. Even my PVP friends and I tried to get together between queues for world PVP but the times wouldn’t match up.
No one would play WSG due to the comparative HPH being so bad, everyone was so concerned about their rank that having fun was irrelevant.
Also, we competed with bots for ranks because bots can get just as much honor in solo scenarios. That’s a big deal, especially with Blizzard doing so little about bots these days.
So how is this all relevant? Well, the solo queuers want nothing with honor to change and nothing with rewards to change. That means the low tier premade people stop queuing and then it keeps going up the chain until EVERYONE is solo queuing and we’re back to that solo queuing hell that all horde went through during early AV.
I’m not against pugging, I did it a lot on my druid and am now doing it on my alliance (while I make sure my alliance is ready for premades before I try to get in). I am for premades existing as this is an MMORPG so you shouldn’t be punished for playing in a group.

Let’s incentivize premade games then. Remember, this is a discussion to come up with a solution. We can’t just assume they will ignore the increased challenge and queue times of premade vs. premade games.
they have not done this for retail in 15 years, no way they add it to classic now

I do trust them to do it, but it is definitely a hard thing to get right. Luckily they can iterate on their solutions and revert poor choices.
A solution can be as simple as prioritizing solo players against each other, and filling some solo players into incomplete premade vs. premade games, after the premades have waited sufficiently long. I’d be surprised if they don’t stealth patch this in to the logic of match-making without telling anyone
remember these have to mesh with a retail client as well. this would also change the horde meta which rn is queue all 3 and be a 10 man premade
Mostly it comes from people who premade and are terrified of the prospect of losing their free wins vs pugs if they had to actually fight and beat other premades.

premade vs premade happens all the time, premades fight alot of other premades before fighting pugs
It’s pathetic because from my experience, stomping a pug is the absolutely worst experience possible. It’s SO boring. Games last maybe 5 minutes.
Sometimes they refuse to cap. Some warrior pops reck with a fap and now has a cool “clip” to show in discord. I lost respect of many premaders on my server when I witnessed this type of thing.
you can soloqueue, we’re just tired of hearing you that you lost.

They get matched against premades, however they can simply lose quickly as there is no penalty for doing so and requeue to fight a pug team.

Currently there is no formal solo queue. I can queue as solo, but I don’t. Nobody sane would do that right now. I want the option to, during off-hours when I don’t have the energy to premade, or when I want to play on my less-geared alts.
most the premades that i was in would usually test the mettle of the other premade first and then decide what to do. we didn’t want the game to last 30 minutes
Yes and this is why it’s a myth that premade vs premade is some arduous affair vs pug vs pug, you’re avoiding the hard fights anyways.

Not remotely true. Right now solo queuers play against premades, which is very difficult to win against. Making pugs never fight premades would be much easier for pugs than the current system.
As to why people are opposed to solo queue? Right now the perk of premades includes beating pugs. You spend more work making a group and get an immediate, powerful benefit. I imagine many people don’t want to lose that for nothing/not enough, and many people posting in these topics don’t offer significant concessions to make up for losing that benefit.
Anyways, I do feel this is a significant change. A good one. But I just don’t get the anti-sentiment. It’s one thing to identify it’s a complex and big change, but another to just bash solo queue players.
we still wouldnt let them 5 cap, if they were better than us we would let them 4 cap but take the most advantageous objective to farm hks.
