Why tanks are rare

It's not because they are hard to play, or the fact they aren't fun, or treated badly. A lot of people want to tank the problem is, you only need 2 for a 20-25 man, and 1 for every 5 man. There is zero demand for tanks in raid guilds, leaving a massive lack of tanks in M+.
People are often forced to reroll dps, because you only need 2 tanks, or 3-4 heals. You always need 20% of a 5 man being a tank vs 10% or less for tanks.

What’s with the weird text box?

That doesn’t explain why pug raids usually take forever to find any. If they were only rare because people get forced into DPS roles in guild raiding because of the lack of role spots then there should be plenty of pug tanks around. They’re obviously not raiding with a guild so they’re not restricted by guild raiding needs.

No, it’s definitely because DPS tend to be incredibly rude to tanks.

This expansion they aren’t that fun to play, personally.
I don’t feel in control of my own survival in that if my HP starts going down, I can only slow it down, not refill it as much as previous expansions.
I don’t feel like I’m contributing damage to the kill like I did in mists.
I don’t enjoy the feeling of just being a taunt bot.
Granted, I haven’t done much since like week 1 of the expac release, so maybe tanks have gotten much better since then.

That said, I miss Mists tank design.

most guilds don’t have raid times for anything under heroic, most people still pug.

Tanks can have as much hps as healers and do almost as much dps as dps (more if dps are underperforming). At least in mythic plus.

In raiding tanking is just mainly tank swapping

It was normal then they changed the formatting for some reason while I was reading. Maybe by putting words in a box, people would read?!

So you’re saying that that most people pugging heroic aren’t raiding with their guilds and thus shouldn’t be constrained by guild demands, and thus heroic pugs shouldn’t have to wait long for tanks.

they are raiding with their guilds, bonus rolls… most still pug. the game is really respec punishing so if you reroll dps you are not getting back into tanking at the same level anytime soon.

This is why heals and especially tanks are rare.

Are DPS immune to rudeness or something?

People don’t like to be responsible for things it seems.

Tanking is not fun as it was in Late Cata, MoP, WoD, and Legion.

Some people quit because they have thinner skin and many DPS are entitled.

Some people don’t bother either because the big damage numbers interest them more or they’re uncomfortable with tanking because they didn’t bother to LFD during leveling, and suddenly needing to learn two dozen buttons along side encounters that aren’t always mind numbing tank and spanks can be intimidating.

Though personally, I find tanking as a warrior to be a bit of a chore. I remember when revenge hit for a darn, and I don’t remember feeling as rage starved.

Back when I was a pug tank dps tended to be the nastiest, scummiest people I ever had the displeasure of meeting.

Sure there were lots of good dps, but all those bad encounters stay with me to this day.

Ok, so what do these snowflakes that switch to DPS do when someone is rude to them while playing DPS?

That’s not why tanks are rare though. With free unlimited spec swapping, any class capable of tanking could do it at the drop of a hat. All you really need is to hold onto a few azerite pieces for a tanking set and you’re good to go.

People don’t tank because they don’t want to tank, and most people who do want to tank do it with their guilds or friends.

Ah, you sound like a shining example of a DPS a tank might encounter in a duty!

I mean you are more than welcome to answer the question being posed.

Edit: I have 3 tanks.

Edit 2: I play 4 tank jobs in FF14.

Edit 3: Basically I tank a lot.
