Sylvanas sought to capture the world tree Teldrassil because the Alliance would use it as a safe harbor to transport Azerite from Kalimdor to the Eastern Kingdoms, and she expected that Azerite to be used for weapons to attack Silvermoon and Undercity, and then turn to Kalimdor. By occupying Darnassus the Horde could control the flow of Azerite and the Alliance would not attack the city for fear of hurting the civilians. Knowing the night elves would resist them every step of the way, she also sought to kill Malfurion Stormrage and break their spirits.
She was a fool. It was common knowledge that Azerite was starting to appear across the planet. Just blocking Kalimdor’s would not prevent the Alliance from getting the stuff.
The fact that she knew that it was the planet’s blood and that it needs that to live, yet she wanted it as a weapon and keep it for herself makes her a larger fool.
Uhm…It says why she attacked the city, not why she burned it to the ground XD. We all know she did it in an emotional moment because someone used the word “Hope”
Little late, I was judging your initial post where nothing was said about “WHY” She burned it down, it only stated why she wanted to take “Control” over it.
Well we’re sick of people like you! The only difference is, one of us is willing to call the other out! God! This post is more click-baity than a Vaulty video.
Blizzard needs to get their crap together and start handing out forum vacations left and right…cos some days, folks are getting away with murder on the forums.
Uhh … nope. Read “A Good War” and you’ll find out pretty quick that the reasons she gave to convince Saurfang into this conflict are not necessarily her own.
Hell, she uses the argument that by capturing Teldrassil she would cause a rift within the Alliance along the Kaldorei and Gilnean lines, but in order for that plan to even work the Kaldorei would need strong representatives to put pressure on Anduin and have his weak inexperienced leadership buckle under the weight. This is EXACTLY what she tells Saurfang, which is the reason he always treats Malf and Tyrande as obstacles best avoided (rather than priority targets).
However, within her own internal dialogue Sylvie contradicts this plan almost immediately. Being frustrated that BOTH Tyrande and Malf wont be on the battlefield; thinking about how she intended for not just THEIR deaths, but creating a wound that would have not only ended the Kaldorei nation (but the Kaldorei people). Who the hell was supposed to argue on behalf of the NEs and put pressure on Anduin if there was no real NE leadership left to actually do so?!
Its even implied within a “A Good War” (heavily) that this war (and ultimately her decision to burn the tree) came more from a place of pursuing her own “True Objectives” (still unknown) than actually in service to the Horde War effort itself. She fully intended to invade the tree after Malf survived; admits that Elune probably interfered (and fully expected other entities LIKE ELUNE to try to do the same); and only decided to burn the Tree after talking to Summermoon.
