Why so much versatility?

if ‘best’ is “most boring”…

looking at what it says it does, it clearly has benefits…its more that its just a soulless bland nothing kind of thing. Id rather more haste or something more interesting

I find myself not upgrading if Im losing other stats for versatility. I dont play competitively so it doesnt matter for my game. Booooooring stat…

How is this reaching? I am currently looking at Crit being my main stat, Mastery being 2nd, and Haste being 3rd, and again, this is just from the gear I am wearing. If I were to switch my gear and replace Haste with Versatility, then it is indeed possible to do, but the question remains, would it be worth it? Haste which benefits Energy Regen, or Versatility which benefits raw damage output?

Fire mage would like a word with you.
Arcane mage would like a word with you.
Assassination rogue would like a word with you.
Marksmanship Hunter would like a word with you.

In fact, there are plenty of specs that want to talk to you. They’re disappointed.

Every stat is beneficial. Some are better than others, depending on content and spec. Gear isn’t going to just never not once drop with a stat, you will ever be at an absolute zero.

There is no stat that gives a negative effect in this game.

About what? Everyone’s numbers on Vers are the same. No one gets more or less Vers when the same number is applied to them. Whereas Mastery changes.

Awkward’s comment is not wrong: everyone get the same value from Versatility. They’re talking about the numeric value. Whereas a stat like Mastery changes even depending on spec.

No, every stat is not beneficial. I’m sorry, but I’m going to disagree with you on this every single time. Every RPG Nerd who min-maxes, even casually, knows this, through trial and error or looking up guides, or both.

Yes, you will, at least in terms of what stats are increased via Gear. Example: I can search for and acquire gear with JUST Crit and Mastery, leaving Haste and Versatility at +0 if I so choose. Does this mean my haste cannot be increased by other means? No. Does that mean talent nodes won’t increase my Haste or Versatility? No, it doesn’t, but from gear alone, I can achieve +0 from those stats if I want.

What baffles me a bit is, in your first sentence, you contradict yourself. You say ‘every stat is beneficial’, but then immediately say, ‘some a better than others’. So, which is it?

Let’s use Assassination Rogue as an example: Obviously, they want high Crit and Mastery, but for a 3rd stat, which do you think would be more beneficial: Haste or Versatility?

Please show me one stat that has a negative effect. I’ll wait.

… are you honestly acting this obtuse? Seriously??

Every. Stat. Has. A. Benefit.

Whether that benefits your particular spec more than a different one, depending on your gameplay, the type of content you do, etc. is entirely your own simming of things.

Blizzard did not make a secondary stat that does not have some benefit.

Do you even understand what’s being said here?

If people are disappointment with me, I’d like them to read the next 12 words of my post.

There’s a reason why basically every guide for every spec in the game says “basically highest ilvl is best, sim it if you’re unsure” and it’s because stat priorities can fluctuate (especially due to the diminishing returns Blizzard implemented) and sometimes stats become much better (or worse!) than you think they are.

Whatever gives more DPS is usually beneficial.

But I’ll answer your question with a follow up question. How much versatility would you trade for 1000 Haste? There is ALWAYS a correct answer to this question.

I’d also mention since blizzard reallocated secondary budgets on gear to about 70% jewellery it matters even less. Rings and neck you care about what stats you have, everything else not much.

You could forgo 1% increase waiting on a 2% increase or a 2% for a 3 or 4% if you wanted to, yeah. If you do it in every slot you’d be needlessly hamstringing yourself just for a big jump instead of lots of incremental ones.

Gaining +1 of any stat is beneficial. Gaining +1 crit might be more beneficial than gaining +1 vers, depending on your spec and your current gear. You might be thinking of losing 1 crit and gaining 1 vers, which of course could be a net loss. But if you’re gaining ilvl then the higher stat budget + higher main stat can win out.

Then of course there are breakpoints in stats. Maybe crit is the highest value stat! But once you reach 33% any further crit could be worth less than vers.

We can all agree to disagree: Versatility is a stat that does not benefit 90% of the Specs played. I have better ways to spend my time than arguing semantics on public forums.

I wish more people would just play the game and stop obsessing about stats. You can beat heroic and M+ content with any old hobbled together set [at the right ilvl] with 4-piece.

No one’s going to put you on blast if you’re 5-7% damage away from what your character can sim. Heck, they probably won’t even care about a 10% difference so long as you know what you’re doing.

And none of this matters to open world folks. Hero gear turns the entirety of it into a breeze. A well deserved breeze.

Please post on your Frost DK. Until then, I’m willing to bet your main content is delves and world content - You don’t need to worry about stats to do this easy, braindead content.

I wish there were more good vers options on some slots. Afaik, there is no good vers neck for instance in this season, so I have to wait two weeks to make one.

More accurately, anything with vers, seems to include crit, which is a trash stat for guardian. I only want big vers/small mastery and big vers/small haste.

Another thing that’s lacking this season, is a good trinket that scales off vers quite as hard as they sometimes do. Best things seem to just be glorified stat sticks that don’t have a vers scaling thing going on.

I don’t need a word. I like versatility.

Because versatility is an important stat for the real WoW game mode: PvP.

As a prot paladin, nah thank you… I’d rather have Haste/Crit, Mastery all day.

BM Hunter Stat Priority:

  2. Haste
  3. Crit
  4. Mastery
  5. Vers
  6. Agility

What he’s saying is ilvl is going to give your more of your most valuable stat. Your primary stat. Add in the fact that you’re getting more points of your secondaries, even if they are less favorable, those higher ilvl pieces are upgrades. But again, players are stuck in the “if it don’t have my best secondaries it’s garbage” mentality.

Then this is the outlier.
