Seriously, tell me why you all think you can solo speedrun past all the trash in the dungeon and not get your party killed.
I don’t care if you personally think you can ignore all the trash and solo every boss, this idiocy isn’t fun for the unfortunate randoms who get teamed up with you. Please stop being selfish jerks, be a proper tank, and keep your party alive instead of kiting a trash train to every boss.
Set the pace all you like. Just do it while also having awareness of your party and positioning the mobs to be efficiently killed. Otherwise you’re not actually tanking. You’re just being carried by better players.
They do it because far too many have been conditioned to follow the m+ sweatlords and treat everything as an m+ when it’s not. and they often overestimate their ability in the process. thinking they’re at a higher level than they actually are. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
If you’re running so far ahead as a tank you’re ranging your healer and the 3 DPS, YOU are the problem, not them. A good tank knows their limits and that of their group. If you see your group is struggling then you need to take your foot off the gas and stop pretending you’re going for a world first m+ infinity run. If you can’t be bothered to stick with the other 4 members of your team you need to stay out of group content.
DPS telling tanks they’re going too slow and pulling for them since wotlk.
Edit: I want to expand on this. I started tanking in wotlk. Before LFD was implemented.
I was there when I had to mark stuff, wait for DPS to cc, and I could only pull as fast as my healer’s mana bar.
Then dungeons got nerfed, players got buffed, aoe threat was a thing, and dungeons got faster and faster. And then I was expected to chain pull. And then chain pull multiple packs. And then pull packs into bosses. And if I didn’t, I was kicked. Or DPS and the healer pulled for me. And this happened every expansion, every year, over and over. For me and all tanks.
Now if we pull fast, we’re bad. If we pull slow, we’re bad.
And now you know why queues are long and why honest to goodness good tanks aren’t pugging.
It being timewalking is irrelevant and not a valid excuse to screw over 4 other people. stay with your team or stay out of group content. You’re not so important that you get to screw over 4 other people because you want to pretend you’re in a world first m+ run. If the group as a whole wants to chain pull and is good with it, then cool. Otherwise slow down and stop trying to be Leeroy 2.0. It’s TEAM content not ME content.
I like to pull large groups or whole hallways in TW when I tank.
I also make sure to have sufficient threat and inturrupt or stun casters when I can as I pull more.
Finally, if I feel like I may die, I stop and tank what I have.
Honestly it’s not always the tank that wants to speed run. I don’t tank much, but decided to dabble with my BM. After just pulling two packs I was told nicely to speed up by the DPS.
So after that I just started whirl kicking multiple packs until the end of the instance. No one died, but don’t think I really got any experience that’ll help increase my tanking confidence.
I’ll be honest, I skipped everything up to Legion and the break neck speed most pugs want to do Timewalking dungeons at makes my head spin. I main dps and dable in healer, but I cannot tank. I rely on tanks to guide groups through content I missed and mechanics I didn’t get to experience the first time around.
In my opinion tanks being aware of their party’s limits and setting a pace to match isn’t too slow. I will never complain about a tank going too slow. If DPS want to go faster they should go do M+ instead of timewalking.
Let me give you an example of what inspired me to start this thread.
I was in Deadmines. The tank took off an ran through all the trash burning movement cooldowns and far outpacing the rest of the party. If anyone else tried to engage the first pull expecting a sensible run they got all the threat and then mauled to death by the whole mob train.
The tank did not stop until the path was blocked by the first boss. We killed the boss and they went right back to running through all the trash until the next boss.
Then they pulled an M+ type skip and jumped of a ledge, not even bothering to think about how the trash train would pull everything else to the boss on the way down. Tryhard got the group wiped. I had enough and just quit the client.
This wannabe M+ nonsense just makes me want to uninstall.
