Why are there 42 servers when there aren’t enough players to fill 5 of them? What kind of sense does that make?

There aren’t 42 servers. This is untrue.
There’s 12 servers. Just 42 different names for them. I’ll repeat the below quote for the fifty millionth time. Please stop spreading misinformation about how many servers there are in classic.
There are now only 12 classic servers: 6 PvP, 3 PvE, 2 RP PvP and 1 RP PvE which are:
- US East PvP-1: Benediction, Faerlina, Heartseeker, Incendius, Netherwind, and Windseeker
- US East PvP-2: Earthfury, Herod, Kirtonos, Kromcrush, Skeram, Stalagg, Sulfuras, and Thalnos
- US East PvE: Ashkandi, Mankrik, Pagle, and Westfall
- US West PvP: Anathema, Arcanite Reaper, Bigglesworth, Blaumeux, Fairbanks, Kurinnaxx, Rattlegore, Smolderweb, Thunderfury, and Whitemane
- US West PvE: Atiesh, Azuresong, Myzrael, and Old Blanchy
- Oceanic PvP: Arugal, Felstriker, and Yojamba

The only ones that can be merged are the two PvP East servers.
After Blizzard are down to 11 servers there are no possible future mergers. The rest can only be DELETED, with players forcibly moved onto a different game type or different location.

Its safe to say that classic era will shut down because they dont have cash shops in it. They want it to die in my opinion, its the only explanation i can think of that explains not giving us free transfer / merging servers / cloning refund/ selling wow rights to someone else / etc…

Zero. But this is also the company who doesn’t listen to their customers, they continue to roll out retail crap game that no one wants… and they sexually harass their employees, so you do the math.

They can dig dirt on anyone they want to bring down. (fabricated or true) This is all scripted to ‘bring down the biggest MMO’ since ever.
