I’ve seen so many flagged posts only to read them and see nothing wrong other than someone’s opinion that isn’t popular but nothing derogatory or vulgar or hurtful in anyway.
Why feel the need to flag someone for…well the reason is what I’m trying to figure out.
Edit: I hope this isn’t a self fulfilling prophecy but I also won’t be surprised if this gets flagged for trolling as well. I’d rather it not so a discussion can happen.

Same reason you see a lot of Reddit posts with acceptable contents get downvoted to oblivion.

Flag = down vote button on the forums

But don’t the flags come with a consequence or reprocution?
Based on your opinion…not the TOS. Gotta remember, that the TOS includes spam, which would get a thread hidden/deleted without anything vulgar or offensive
Very rarely does someone get any action for incorrectly flagging

Well those are included in the tos. Out of curiosity what would be considered spam?
“Any duplicate thread that I don’t like the topic of” is considered spam around here by the vast majority of the GD community.
If you are also upset that Taivan wasn’t bigly enough (a controversy from a few months back) then the ten threads are not spam.
However, if you like your brutosaur purchase (current controversy), then all threads about it being overpriced are spam.
This is one of many double standards we live with here.

For example, all of the Bruto threads that were made despite Blizzard making an official one. Usually 1 or 2 will survive, but when it climbs into 10s or dozens, they usually start cleaning it up.

I seen you also mentioned double standards but it’s the also the people flagging them right? Do we as forum users bear the onus? If so what of all the mythic+ posts that are saying their trash over and over or all the “this anniversary stinks” posts. For a few days that’s all you’d see
You may choose to flag or not based on your feelings on the topic, but that doesn’t change the fact that if it’s spam, it’s spam and should be handled appropriately. Would be nice if we had active moderation doing the work instead of us having to clean up the place.

Yes, absolutely. Mods generally don’t proactively seek out threads so the double standard is largely the fault of the community.

To play devils advocate then, you and I both are members of the community so what drives you to flag certain things? If you do at all of course, I do not myself for sake of clarity

What things are you assuming that I am flagging? I’m not likely to even report within the game unless it’s botting or rmt/lfg ads.
Around here I’d flag for threats and potentially language. That’s about it.
I’m not assuming, no judgment neither way
Edit: was just asking out of general curiosity, really applies to everybody just to get an idea on what makes the cut or not since spam is a loose term it seems

It would be for objectively breaking the rules. Threats and language being the most obvious.
“I don’t like this topic so 3 threads means it’s spam” is subjective however. Especially when you’re actively engaging in the 5 threads taking the contrarian position to those other 3.
B/c these forums are uber-policed to the point where it’s tough to take them seriously.
The rules plainly say people can’t make “mega-threads” all the time but yet they still keep doing it and if you question it, you get in trouble. I mean, if people realized how SIMILAR this behavior is to former political regimes …maybe they’d think twice about it.
This would be wholly true I think but as someone else mentioned, maybe it is just the downvote button. To that though I would ask why bother engaging at all though that would be mostly rhetorical
Edit: downvote=trolling from what I’ve seen too.

Surprised this post didn’t get flagged. Doesn’t deserve to, but honestly surprised.
Any time you have an opinion some people do not like they flag it.
I had posted how I disliked sky riding. I got flagged for that. Not one of those posts saying remove sky riding because i do not like it so then everyone must hate it too. I just responded to a thread saying I did not like sky riding.
