it’s an mmo. you should have to interact with people anyway. its kind of one of the defining aspects of the genre.
You think they couldn’t just do it for specific mobs, in specific zones, for a limited amount of time? I don’t know the code, maybe you’re right about that.
Sort of, except WoW was always an MMO where you could level completely solo. And yes interacting for a shared objective is great. Interacting just because you have nothing better to do is not great.
That’s like claiming the DMV is a great source of social interaction.
I met my wife at the DMV! (Just kidding…)
I’m sure they could, when shared tags originally came out they were limited to named mobs. And now they’re limited to named mobs cross faction and same faction for regular mobs.
So yeah it seems like a pretty versatile system.
Even without sharding you still can level solo
Right which is why the argument that social interaction is and always has been a core part of leveling is silly argument.
the real answer is because sharding comes along with the new hardware package. they are not using servers from 2004 either, the capacities are huge and the vanilla zones can only hold so many people
shared tagging is outside the scope of things they want to change
They do want to. They’re doing it because they want to (because they are waiting for the moment). Those that don’t want to, won’t talk.
I am saying such situations -encourage- people to get more social.
All this talk about sharding and mob-tap sharing and whatnot makes me wonder what happens when the old-school PvE griefing of low-level quest givers (which used to respawn soooooo slowly) as well as mob-tapping of slowly-respawning mobs with AoE spamming starts to occur.
You know these people can’t wait to cause that kind of pain, and for some reason they seem to level much, much more quickly than I ever will and they’ll almost surely be there before I get out of the starting zone lol…
Like anyone truly believes it will only be in on that timeframe. Call me a cynic but I don’t believe it for a second until the day it officially is stripped away. They’ve put it back in on current when they said they wouldn’t.
Personally, I know tag sharing isn’t Vanilla, but at the same time I personally would prefer it to a system that has absolutely obliterated the one thing I loved on current WoW.
Since we are not getting #NoChanges it seems kinda pointless to scream about the Vanilla experience then turn around and say, “Well, this only happens for maybe a couple of weeks”.
No they’re doing it because they’re bored and waiting for something to spawn.
It’s going to happen even less now than it did in vanilla due to how much more common other forms of entertainment are now. 5 minute spawn? That’s plenty of time for youtube, netflix on a second monitor or just bust out the cell phone for a few minutes. Especially easy if you’re a ranged with insta cast spells, set up your target/cast macro and you don’t even have to be watching the screen while spamming that bad boy.
Absolutely not, and no sharding either.
Unfortunately, that’s not what is going to happen. I would prefer mob sharing in the starter zones over sharding. Having a large “feeling alive” space is more important to me than the aspect of competition of resources.
Nope, like Tyandra said if they didn’t want to socialize, they wouldn’t and don’t have to. You aren’t just going to be able to run in there like a bank heist and get your quest item and leave. Competition for resources is one of Vanilla’s core components, it can cause strife or friendship between your fellow levelers. You may find it annoying, maybe you don’t like speaking to people, but it’s one of the games quirks.
I never thought of it that way. I never once thought hey it’s cool no one else can take this mob I’m attacking. Also your statement about you’re not going in there to steal an item is also wrong. Plenty of times you get a pack defending the item you want and someone just walks up and takes it and leaves.
