WHY shamans want tanks

One of the main reasons i would like to have a tank spec for shamans is because theyre a hybrid class. It could be easy to make a Warrior healer using shouts and morale boosts, or Mage tanks with magical barriers and other magics. But you dont pick a warrior if you want to heal, or a mage if yoy wanted to tank. But as a Shaman, i like to do it all. And all of the tools are already there. Just a few tweeks and Shamans have plenty of spells, armor, and thematic reasons to be tanks

And because most tanks feel like they have a niche, Shamans could be about weapon buffs. Just a thought

I could see switching weapon enhancements on your shield and 1hander to determine what you need at the moment. And depending of the combination between the two, effects what spells excel at the moment.

For sake of bloat, only two elements per weapon/shield.

Weapon: Fire-Passive aoe damage. Better resource generation

Weapon: Water-Healing Spells enhanced. Auto attacks passively heal

Shield: Earth-Damage Mitigation. No spell interruption

Shield: Air-Lightning/chain lightning do more damage. Earthquake causes static electricty to do more damage/threat

Also, depending on the combination of enhancements, you could gain access to, or enhance, one of your current spells. Having Water Main hand and Air Shield could cause your healing rain to turn into healing storm, AoE that heals allies and damages enemies.

To be able to switch between your enhancements, it only needs 1 button per slot. Switch your main hand to other enhancement. And switch you off hand to the other enhancement.

I think Shaman tanks could be really awesome. Any thoughts on this please share them. Even if you dont like it, that can spark insight as to how it could be great or improved.

I’d rather see enhancement made into a 2her heavy damage spec similar to the shaman soul in rift

I would love 2 handed enhancement as well. Even if its just a transmog option(this goes for frost dk’s as well). The stats are all the same, just looks like we’re holding a 2h instead of 2 1h

Shaman tanks should be able to dual wield shields

Just so many dual wield melee dps that truly outshine us, (dh/fdk in particular). I’d like to see enhancement have a niche. A support spec would be cool too. Damage+group buffs. Maybe some mitigation with a permanent wolf pet

Im totally down for that

This is totally what i want. Bring back totem group buffs and some kind of aoe heal for enhance

Why do we want to tank?

Because it was a fun thing to do up until after Wotlk, they removed all the tools to do it.

I wouldn’t say no to a gladiator stance esque talent for enhance, I can already sort of tank on this character here, as a twink, I could see a talent that increases armor by 85% or so, a block chance increase, a taunt and maybe 30% encreased threat doing a decent enough job.

Change Lava Lash to Lava Block, or something? Just throwing out ideas, and i kinda like it

shamans cant take any hits on any of their specs.

Unpopular Opinion: We don’t need more hybrid classes that can both tank and dps. 3 is more than enough. We need more classes like Shaman and Death Knight with 2 dps specs and one tank/healing spec.

Warriors are boring
Played Paladin
Played Brewmaster
Demon Hunters are edgelords
Dark Iron DK maybe
Bear Tanks are supposedly too simple

You really gotta try blood DK. From a sheer aesthetic/flavour perspective its my fav spec in the game

Neither can any other class without a cooldown. You new to this game?

Look I love the idea of having tank shaman. My guild could use a secondary tank. Since I main a shaman a lot I would love to just stay on my shaman instead of having to get on one of my warriors, or pallys. I have advocated for this and even gave suggestions on how this could be done.

However, I have learned over the years I really doubt Blizzard will ever give shamans the ability to tank. Here is why I say that.

First, you look at the current break down of tanks Pally, Warrior, Death Knights plate classes, Druids, Monks, Demon Hunters leather classes. We wear Mail armor (something that I have never understood why we wear in the first place but hey glad we do). For some reason Blizzard thinks that mail armor is weaker than leather for some strange reason. Until Blizzard comes to the realization that Mail armor is better than leather. This is my number one reason why I dont think they will.

Second reason we already have 6 tank classes in the game adding a 7th could throw the balance of the game off. Granted not like it already isnt off. However, we already have enough tank classes in the game. Now granted we also have enough DPS classes as well however its easier for Blizzard to create DPS class than to create a tank class. Just my opinion on that last one.

Third: Lore wise not game play wise but Lore wise have shamans ever been known as tanks? I can not find any evidence that shamans were ever considered Lore wise a tank class. Shamans are healers, counselors, support. It was mentioned here that shamans become more of a support role with buffs and all. I like that Idea I have always thought that it would be a great Idea to have enhancement shamans be the buff class putting buffs on peoples weapons, and enhance the strength, agility, and intellect of those around them. Because currently enhancement doesnt really seem to fit the spec name if all we are doing is using the elements to just hit things but not help other players. Just a thought.

Now what I would love to see for shamans is more spirit animal options, quests that would allow us to be able to find our own spirit animal and have them help us fight in the world and to help those we play with. Sorry I digress.

The only way I can see that Blizzard does give us a tank class is if all the shamans can finally get together write out what the tank class should work, and feel like. What we would like each spec of our class to focus on specifically list each spell, ability whatever you want to call them. And then present it to Blizzard as a united front. However, I seriously doubt that we will get all the shamans to agree on this in the first place. Human nature and all in todays world. Anyways, I do hope one day this could happen. In the mean time lets just help Blizzard fix what we need fixed on the current specs that we have.

They should have a tank spec. 2h tank spec all about rock/earth and crap. If Shammy had a tank spec i would be all up for it.

Every class released post-vanilla has had a tank spec. Tanks are notably the least represented class in the game, so having more tanks in ever a bad thing.

My feeling is that, as they found with Druid, having to balance all four roles within a single class has become kind of a pain and they want to avoid doing so for the Shaman (or for Paladin or Monk if they had a ranged DPS spec). This is likely the reason why the DH can only perform two roles and only has two specs.

We have 3 tanks wearing Leather and 3 wearing Plate, so it would make sense for their to be a Mail tank. It seems they definitely don’t want to add it to the Shaman class (or for example change Enhancement from melee DPS to tank), but if they added a new Mail class that could tank it would anger a lot of Shamans who wanted to be able to tank. So, I suspect we will not see a Mail tank any time soon, assuming we even see a new class or spec ever added to the game.

I cant express how awesome i think that would be

Wishful thinking I know, but I just leveled an enhancement shammy alt just in case they ever make a shammy tank spec. I think it’s a super cool idea. It sounds like an engaging fantasy and, I love the image of it in my mind.
