Which still keeps Ysera dead and does not lose Malfurion for bad story.
He corrupted the Tear of Elune and stabbed her through the heart with it to corrupt her. That was not “low effort.”

QFT.
I really wish they would just retcon all of SL, none of it happened.
Sylvanas dies at the end of BFA, tyranda mellows the hell out, thats the end of it.
Please, SL was the worst thing to happen to wow.
People say Malfurion does nothing. That’s Blizzards fault in the first place. Also the Dragon Aspects have done even less, especially since Cataclysm. Malfurion was an active player in the third war and helped bring it to a close. What’s the last relevant thing the Aspects did? Deathwing. And that’s it. Ysera’s aid in Legion amounted to one strafing run and then getting corrupted by Xavius and dying. I do not see a reason to kill Malfurion off in such a stupid way. Need him to do something in Dragonflight? Put him in charge of growing that new tree.
This also we should have just gotten Yesaras daughter as the new aspect of the green
I have the same feelings on Ursoc.
I feel we lost him for a piss poor story, and a worse expansion.
I was always hoping they’d play on the brotherhood aspect of his story with Ursol, and dive into that path more – but they squandered & wasted that potential.
I find it ironic that most the mass communities of players, content creators and majority of sources online that dove into lore and were passionate about the story are all unifying in agreeance about their discontent & negative feelings towards Shadowlands, many even wanting it to just outright be retconned by any means necessary — But you’ll continue to see on the forums with small-time dabblers or those that don’t really care much for the story, but still defend Shadowlands viciously with futile ‘logic’ and dissuade all sources that defy their word.
But yeah, personally I’d rather them just outright say it was a small piece of the puzzle regarding undeath – glimmering there’s a plathora of unknown secrets, wonders and miracles we have yet to uncover, understand or even fathom in scratching the surface.
Bringing Ysera back could be a good start to that, but have her ‘power diminished, left in the Shadowlands for the debt paid’ – and then naming her daughter to take up her mantle would be a good ‘Passing the torch’ moment.
NO. YSERA OR RIOT.
I am pissed they took away my Ysera pet though. What the heck? I even hatched her and she was bound to me, this is ridiculous.
Atleast if you’re gonna gimme a Ysera pet… GIVE it to me. Not be like. OH SHHI-----HIT, it hatched an OP dragon I guess we put this… erm, back with the NPC’s. I guess. Meanwhile staring at my pet dragon purrrtty green Princess taken away… like ommgggggg!
I’d rather them rip out Ysera back into the fold, and flip the bird to Shadowlands.
Many players hated the expansion anyway and would sooner rather ignore acknowledging its existence & terrible ‘lore’.
I’m suspicious that they’ve been planning on bringing back Ysera all along, though I’m still uncertain as to what exactly they have planned as the lore reason why she was even in a Wild Seed since she was never previously established as a Wild God or anything like that.
She was always just a dragon and an Aspect, no reason to assume that she was capable of coming back from death like the Wild Gods even if she was connected with the Emerald Dream. Druids generally don’t return to life just because they’re connected with the Emerald Dream.
On a side note, they REALLY screwed up the lore of the Emerald Dream with Ardenweald, because past lore established the Emerald Dream as an afterlife itself but SL basically went “Nope, the Emerald Dream isn’t the afterlife of animals, Green Dragons and Druids, Ardenweald is lulz. Please disregard what past lore said about the Emerald Dream.” SL treated so many in-universe Warcraft cultures like trash.
If they were planning her return all along or at least planning to expand the lore as to why she was in a Wild Seed, it does make her story in Ardenweald make a little more sense as to why the writers had her soul bound to Ardenweald the way they did, even if it is cheapening her death.
I’m guessing that they’re going to reveal that Ysera was artificially ascended to Wild God status by the Titans when they made her an Aspect with a strong connection to the Emerald Dream and that most of the other Wild Gods have Primal origins and ascended to that status mostly naturally.
This would be a retcon since Wild Gods were previously established as having come about as a result of the Well of Eternity and Freya’s establishment of enclaves of nature and life, but they already pretty much retconned this anyway by revealing that there are Wild Gods from worlds other than Azeroth.
Regardless, none of this is to say it’s a good idea to bring back Ysera. I just always found the Shadowlands lore surrounding Ysera to be odd with the whole thing with her starting in a Wild Seed implying that she can return to life like a Wild God, and then have some thing happen that causes her to be bound to Ardenweald and unable to return to Azeroth.
If they were planning on making her death stick, they literally could have just had Ysera as a soul living in Ardenweald like Huln Highmountain which would have been far simpler and much more in line with what people expected to see. Involving a Wild Seed with Ysera just never made much sense IMO.
Finally, I think Ysera’s death was an iconic moment in Legion and that most people were fine with her story ending. Most people had also assumed that she isn’t capable of returning from death before Shadowlands, too. Bringing her back potentially ruins that moment in Legion, and again, virtually no one ever assumed that Ysera can return from being dead like the Wild Gods.
I have a feeling they’re probably going to use “Wild God Status” as the lore reason why other Green Dragonflight members like Merithra can’t become the new Green Aspect.
They still haven’t even established how Ursoc’s permadeath and complete destruction of his very soul has affected Druids. Druids literally have an ability that “invokes Ursoc’s spirit” despite him not even having a spirit anymore.
I don’t think they considered Druids at all before literally deleting Ursoc’s soul from existence. You’d think that they would at least shift the focus of Guardian Druid towards Ursol instead of Ursoc.
Because “ruin” is subjective, some people like it
I didnt like Ysera being dead in the first place. Honestly, I am fine with any retcons from the previous 3 or 4 expansions, its been a mess.
Ruin? I mean the last two xpansions have been absolute turds… not really much to ruin atm… but I do agree, death should be permanent. A character dies, they should be gone.
This has never made sense in the WoW universe. So many classes can rez, some can even do it in combat. A dk should have rezzed varian right when he died. No problem.
All our characters are immortal and the NPCs should be too.
Secret: Quality writing costs no more than writing done by somebody who has been promoted to a position that they are incapable of doing well.
Shadowlands itself is a ruination upon WoW!
So, f*** Ardenweald - They even killed my boi Ursoc.
Spitting, uzipping & urinating on the ‘lore’ of Shadowlands is ‘Pro-WoW’ in my own and many, many others books.
Still upset Ursoc is dead…
They already bring back dead characters on a whim. Ysera is not even the first one!
Remember Nefarion? Didn’t we kill in him back in the good ol’ days of yonder before The Burning Crusade? Oh, he became a raid boss again in Cataclysm.
I think it happened to one of his sisters two.
Now that I think about it, both of those raid bosses were Dragons. Maybe Dragon souls are immortal and it’s just the body that is momentarily displaced when the body dies.
It could also be that WoW’s story was always bad, and any fond memories of it is just viewed through rose tinted glasses?
‘A worthy sacrifice’ – If you will … Although in this case ironically: It’s reviving something than killing.
Plenty of games & even stories do it, and if done right - many of them are praised for it.
Personally I hope they can bring him back and give us a ‘Brotherhood’ questline with him and Ursol.
Heck, even if they bring Ursoc back as a pleb non-god bear (for dying in Ardenweald) or a mortal Furbolg druid I’d be ecstatic with joy.
The writers of WoW’s in-game stories are simply incapable of delivering.
I miss ysera.
I’m glad shes coming back.
I think you made the point yourself. As with every major religion, “dead” doesn’t mean you don’t exist any more it just means you’ve gone somewhere else.
Where? Well you’ve gone to:
“The undiscover’d country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?”
… Hamlet Act 3 Scene 1
… William Shakespeare
