Every expansion, Prot Warrior is considered te worst tank. ?I main asa Prot but it’s frustating to see it underperforming every xpac. At least till the first major patch.
Every list i saw about tanks in Shadowlands state Prot Warr as c-tier. I leveled a DK and a Pally while waiting for SL, and boy they are so easy to Tank, it’s like easy mode when you come from Prot Warr.
It was literally considered the best tank in M+ and I believe #2 in raids during 8.3. It was nerfed severely going into pre-patch specifically because it was outperforming.
It’s also been considered a fine tank most of the time I’ve been playing and most of the time I haven’t been playing the game, probably owing to its classic pedigree as the original tanking class.
If anything, if there’s a major patch that buffs the spec, then you have something to look forward to. You don’t want to be an outlier, just look at the huge nerfs to Brewmaster that they received just before launch.
I don’t believe there’s any clear indication that Prot is a C tier tank right now, even if it isn’t definitively A tier right now.
I firmly believe Paladin is probably easier to play compared to Protection Warrior. We’ve always had to kind of work harder, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have adequate survivability or threat generation to clear content.
But that’s exactly what is said, it was good in 8.3, now take 8.0 and see if Prot Warr were good.
Well, i think we PRot Warr are underperfoming. As i said, in taked some Mithyc 0 with my Warr that is 172 ilvl and with my Pally that is 158 ilvl. With the same healer and almost the same group(we always pug one), and boy with Pally things were a lot easy done.
So is the actual role of tanking where the difficulty lies for the role in a group? Do players stear away from the tank role because of the knowledge needed for proper utilization in a given instance (raids, dungeons, etc.)?
I know easy is a subjective term, but I’m curious as to why it can be summed up as just that. “I hate tanking” is a common phrase from non tanks when asked to fill in. Easy is something that makes people flock to a dps spec, even if it’s boring. Why not tanks?
He’s generally of the opinion that everything in WoW is easy, I wouldn’t take that comment too much to heart.
For the most part in Prot, I can charge in, group adds, pop Avatar and Shockwave and cycle Thunderclaps. There are pulls where it gets challenging managing streaming or stringing adds and your rage/survivability.
He’s essentially saying it’s not anything that should prevent you from doing any content in the game.
Everybody needs to know mechanics for the most part. Don’t stand in this, interrupt that, move this thing over here, kill this, stun this, etc. Once you get that down, it’s usually like a key unlocking a door lock.
The big difference between tanking and DPS is that you have to manage and group adds and hold threat while your DPS go full ham. If they pull threat, it’s challenging to get it back and requires precise targeting.
If your DPS give you about 2 full GCDs to build threat, usually the class threat scaling will carry you.
looking at the tier list is “silly”? When every you tuber and their mother was doing tier list and people on the forums constantly referred to tier sims from the first raid. Your reply is silly considering damage/ tuning is everything in this game m.
Prot feels like trash atm, it might be a gear thing but thunder clap seem to not generate that much threat. Maybe with more haste its fine but with my gear thunder clap is on a 5.5 second cd and if people pull off you, then you have to revenge and waste rage that you need to shield block/ ip.
True, but you need to use Revenge at least once on pull. Avatar gives rage, charge gives rage. Revenge leaves Deep Wounds debuff which is a ticking DoT that builds threat.
That’s why Thunderclap isn’t enough on its own. Just revenge on pull and on proc and you should be alright. If not, cast it once more and cycle adds with tab target and weave shield slams for rage/ST threat.
You can also use Ancient Aftershock or Spear of Bastion for a ton of snap threat and use Shockwave for some breathing room. I prefer to use Demo Shout or Avatar before cast for +20% damage.
Outside of Avatar-Unstoppable Force, Ravager or Spear, don’t expect to be able to hold threat only from AoE, especially with the nutty new Covenant powers providing so much burst AoE damage from DPS. Tab target, grab adds that change targets and put a shield slam or a taunt on them.
