I'm curious to know what motivates others without faction pride to continue playing. This expansion focuses on faction war but there are some people who say they're sick of the faction war and not showing an ounce of pride. If you're Alliance, you're supposed to despise the Horde and vice versa. You should be flying your flag with pride and ensuring the best future for your faction by crushing your enemies. Why? That's what World of WARcraft is all about!
Because it’s a video game. I save my pride in things for real life and enjoy my fantasy swords and sorcery in wow without getting wrapped up in some fictional politics that I have neither a say in, nor ability to change.
Besides, I am not any of my characters.

The alliance are weaklings, whipping their existence fron the planet is a good thing for the true citizens of Azeroth that is the Horde.
why not play without it?
the game still functions in every way if you play without faction pride, except you might not be as into the story.
it's cool if you need the faction pride to motivate you, but not everyone does.

Have you considered how your characters feel?
Mika here hates the Horde with a burning passion, even in undeath. Bringing them death is all she knows.

Your emphasis is wrong. It is WORLD of Warcraft, ie the world that was first created for the Warcraft games.

Uh, no it's not. The world is filled with constant conflict and each expansion brings in a new era of war. But I guess it can mean whatever you think it does.

This is gonna be long because hey, I'm a huge nerd and this is an area I've put more thought into than is probably reasonable:
For me? Because I feel like the story has gotten to a point where we no longer need faction conflict. It feels like it exists purely to justify PVP (when there are many other justifications available - war exercises for instance)
I'm not saying I don't like the Alliance (I do), but... after the last 6 expansions, mostly involving us teaming up in some capacity, even to the point of the Alliance helping the Horde put a new warchief on the throne instead of destroying them outright when the opportunity was available, and then putting down the Burning Legion as a red and blue tag team....
It just feels contrived, frankly.
I think that's what annoys me about it. It felt natural until post-Pandaria... at that point there's a bit of a thaw in relations as we fight the Iron Horde on Draenor - I mean we aren't friends, but we're more or less teamed up. Then the Legion shows up and we really ramp up the teamwork - yes there are still (significant) fissures, and if Blizz wanted it could create interesting, more nuanced dealings between the factions involving backroom intrigue and questionable operations - but ultimately? We beat the hell out of the Legion and helped imprison Sargeras. Together. And we lost a lot of people on both factions doing it too.
Honestly I find it strange that the Horde were at all willing to go along with burning Teldrassil (maybe if it had just been Forsaken doing it), at all - purely on the basis of having fought and died beside these people just months prior.
As for why I keep playing?
Well A) I enjoy the gameplay. It's fun. I enjoy a lot of games, most of which have certain areas that irk me. In WoW it tends to be the annoying tendency to revert to the default state of things no matter how much change is supposed to have happened. But I still have fun. (Note that I don't say the writing - the writing this expansion has actually imo been better than folks give it credit for.
B) I roleplay, I find it fun to really get into the fiction. Especially with the advent of the Void Elves and their total lack of lore... it's kind of interesting trying to find a place for them tbh. (Still would have preferred HE but hey whatchagonnado)
Related to this - getting into the fiction I honestly feel it's more interesting (for me) to play without pride in a faction. I mean if you think about it, a Void Elf, being a long lived elf, has been in their lifetime, part of the Alliance, watched their city nearly destroyed and the Sunwell extinguished, been part of the Horde, and then ping ponged BACK to the Alliance - I feel like some faction cynicism is warranted at that point.
The TL;DR version -
Cause it's fun and I have ways to work around elements I find annoying and pointless. That doesn't mean I don't still dislike said elements, but I can survive them and still have a good time.

Honestly with all the changes wow has gone through over the years it's really amazing to see what it's capable of. BFA made me excited and the war really did have potential what with phasing and content updates and so on. However I wouldnt really say it's due to pride for either horde or alliance that pushes me forward but rather the desire to see a story unravel.
BFA had the potential to show the alliance bare its fangs, to show the aggression of both factions bringing the world to a destructive future and have a true back and forth war that would leave both sides with scars and I'll will. I wanted a horde pushed to the brink and uniting as one while the alliance finally gets its hands dirty and makes things interesting. There was potential for both sides to losee towns and see zones change hands as new heroes rise and others fall.
But instead we have horde attacking first while alliance still act with restraint. Instead of a war for survival and way of life we have yet another horde shoots first while alliance plays the martyr.
Wheres the pride in playing horde? A faction of paranoid warmongers that fear every day the big bad racist alliance will come and snuff em out so they have to strike first in the nastiest way possible all the time every time.
Or the alliance? A faction of de-fanged kittens who will never ever sully themselves with fighting properly even as their world literally burns down around them because theyre so high and mighty.
I like questing and seeing stories as they progress but pride in the factions as they are and have been for years is honestly a joke.
The game play is fun and I still can enjoy a story now and then I guess is what it comes down to.

I played on a pvp server, so I'll always have faction pride. It's more of a bad story issue now. Every horde city is a raid while 0 raids have been against an alliance city. We got a cartoon for our raid of the tree. Dalaran and class halls made people too friendly to other factions.
How can I hate the Alliance when I'm surrounded by Blood Elves?
I hate them far more than the other faction!

Not really into RP. I'm mostly here for the raids, M+ and the drunken Discord chats that usually accompany them.10/30/2018 03:22 AMPosted by MikazakiI'm curious to know what motivates others without faction pride to continue playing.
I don't really have faction pride either way. I like both and I like people from both sides.
Even in a roleplay sense, my character wouldn't be a strong either or, and just see people as people, judging them by their own words and decisions.

I do not care about Pride in real life, I do not care about Pride in a video game. I'm probably the opposite of what the Horde stands for in real life, but it's better than playing Alliance. Kek :B

I do understand where you're coming from to an extent. When there's an enemy who threatens our planet then we won't have a choice but to team up to destroy them. In the end though, the Alliance and Horde will always have their own motives and won't allow the other to have the upper-hand.
Even in Legion, we had a zone (Stormheim) dedicated to the faction rivalry and a few contested outposts for pvp. Even though we're more than capable of working together, we're still enemies in the end.
It makes sense if you think that each side is terrified what might happen if the other one gets too powerful. We don't fully trust either and we have to look out for the future of our faction in the end.
To me, I think the story and gameplay are two important elements in the game. I've seen many threads criticizing the direction of the story and I thought that was a big thing for a lot of people. I just think if you're displeased with your faction then you're not fully enjoying the game.
About the Void Elves, I'm hoping Blizzard add more to their lore. It's definitely lacking.
