Why play a pvp server?

Gladiators (lvl 60’s) killed peasants (lowbees) all the time, and that’s what makes pvp realms exciting. If you’re caught out in the open when one is running around, bad on you. Watch your back.

I roll a second toon at the same time so I dont get frustrated, I just switch for a while.

Why play on a PvP server? You do realize the entire game is centered around Horde vs Alliance right? The game in it’s pure state has WPvP. Some of us actually like fighting the opposite faction as if we were actually in Azeroth. Those scummy Horde deserve death! For the Alliance!

Yeah this is what im thinking about doing. Although there isn’t much to lose or gain by PvP imo, there are particular zones and areas where killing someone far away from a graveyard actually sucks mega bad, and the thrill of being a Druid or Rogue is only interesting in open world pvp content imo. Its like having god mode.

I will however never, ever, ever take a Warrior to 60 on a PvP server EVER again. It was a nightmare that never ended… ever…

Why play a pvp server?

Because PVP servers are fun for me.
World PVP is fun for me.
I am looking forward to playing on a pvp server

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women!

If you remain on the fence as to what server type to roll on, my suggestion is to read through this thread and other’s that are pvp related. Chew over the opinions presented. Make a note of who the opinions are coming from and decide who you would like to play with. The choice then becomes obvious.

Your oversimplification is both sad and wrong. This is a video game, not combat. Making up names for people who dislike random pvp server in a poorly balanced game works both ways. Some may say carebear while they, in turn, are often referred to as no life d-bags. Simply put, anyone who thinks not getting genked by bored jackwagons is more fun isnt living a “sheltered life”

PVP servers are just a different culture and attract a different type of player than PVE or RP.

I personally have always rolled on RP servers. In vanilla we had world pvp all the time. We would schedule pvp raids, announce them on the forums, and people would always show up.

You lose a lot of spontaneous out of the blue world pvp, but you gain not being ganked and griefed while you’re trying to do pve content. It’s a tradeoff.

I like how you skip from unsupported claims of genkers being the best players to pve servers missing out on a large amount of gameplay followed by acting as though anyone asked for in game immortality. First, PVE servers are chock full of raiders, BG runners, and TM/SS raiders who are just as skilled at those activities. That isnt hyperbole, that is a simple fact that you can find with a simple google search of old raiding guilds and high rank pvpers. Literally the only activity that you see less of is open world pvp. You still see it, you just see less. The one thing you see a significant decrease in is genking. As that activity has zero measurable impact on a players skill, no great loss. In short, some people only want to pvp when they want to pvp.

idk man, I am RP all the way

Have you felt the thrill of being in STV at night in the rain?

When your enemies can not see you as you follow them.

To take the joy from their day as you kill them on elites and imoortant quest mobs.

God Bless the Rains down in Stranglethorn Vale.

That is probably one of the main reasons people go to PVE servers as they don’t feel all that thrilled about that particular activity. Folks enjoy different things. Honestly, after 15 years of people expressing a dislike of genking, you would think folks would just accept the fact that others dont like it as much as they do.
Think of it like this. If it was legal to slap someone in the face in certain areas of your town and some big vet went around slapping all the teens they could find, nobody would be surprised when people started avoiding that area. As a matter of fact, nobody would be surprised when people called the guy names for bragging about how well, much, or often he was slapping those teens.

Im going to make an UD rogue named Junglerot

I laughed at this comment.

Thank you.

I sincerely hope you get the name. We are all much more likely to enjoy the game with the characters and themes we want.

The overall quality is terrible, you will get ganked by people much higher level and by roving groups. However, even on a PVE server you can still be griefed by people who come in and kill npcs and quest mobs so, effectively, your game is over whether it’s by corpse run or by nothing to do. In vanilla, for a bit, someone would get dishonorable kills for killing those npcs - but that wasn’t much of a solution.

At least on a PVP server those people are always vulnerable (outside of certain home areas) so other players can get them on the way to where the griefing will happen.

Should there be a better system? Probably, and the game literature at launch actually said there would be penalties for griefing but they didn’t put them in the game.
