Lots of people don’t mind playing solo and questing and just enjoying being in the world, listening to the music, doing professions, etc. Not everyone’s main goal is end game so whenever I play classic it’s more of a single player game to me anyways. It’s a slow burn, relaxing, and I don’t mind if I am all alone in the world, I have a lot of NPC’s to keep me company anyway.

Sorry I haven’t responded. Literally been spending time setting up my (Vanilla) UI on a new up and coming private server PTR. There seems to be a lot of hype behind it, I assume there will be more action than on the (true) blizzard classic servers combined at current time.

As far as Naxx and gear is concerned, I dont think the majority of old school players like us really care about that gear so much. I wouldn’t wanna get fully decked out in Naxx gear knowing theres nothing afterwards to do…

This comment is glorious.

there a smoll very very smoll. SMoller that an actualy terrible private server.

Like there actually no bg NOT EVEN 1 i actually went in stormwing and i fished in middle of stormwind for 3 hours

no one

Classic is gigantic by comparison. All of Outlands can fit in half of one of the two continents in Azeroth.

You have to grab you gear in dungeons and raids in Classic, While in TBC you craft 5 pieces.

Not to mention, the dungeon design in Classic is fantastic and allows creative players to navigate them without a full group or solo if they choose to. All TBC dungeons are railway track tunnels with no creativity.

Yeah TBC dungeons are indeed all hallways; kinda sucks in that respect.

Well judging by the way you worded that, it appears that your desire to play is based entirely on how many people are playing, rather than the gameplay itself.

So to answer your question in that context, I’d say the people who are still playing anyway are all playing for a variety of their own reasons, mostly just boiling down to “because I like it.”

Believe it or not, there are still people in today’s self-proclaimed “modern” society who make their own decisions on what they personally like or don’t like, and don’t depend on nor require massive crowds liking something in order to convince them they’re allowed to like it too and in order to validate their own existence. And contrary to popular belief and popular “ideals” these days, some people still exist who do not suffer from FOBA (Fear Of Being Alone) or FOBI (Fear Of Being Independent) or FONBAM (Fear Of Not Being A Majority). Some people are still capable of being comfortable within their own skins and capable of actually enjoying things based on their own preferences, rather than “everybody else.”

Let me expand a bit on what Gilidan just said. I enjoy playing with friends in WoW, occasionally. But I also greatly enjoy playing the game alone. Over the years, I have been in guilds but most of my game play I have been guildless. Right now the population is very spare, that means that some of the group activity (for me this is BattleGrounds, I personally don’t enjoy group instance PVE at all) is hard to come by. Still the game, for me at least, is far from dead.

Spare though the population is, there is plenty for me to do. I recently got cooking up to 300 and I am just now exploring vendors around Azeroth and looking for recipes I don’t have. I just won the Stranglethorn fishing tournament (obviously an advantage with the population so low now) and I will continue to play each Sunday until I have the other rare-fish items. I am currently working on Argent Dawn rep and that is a very long slow process when it is all done in the outside world . . . still I am well entertained by it. Overall I am truly having a great deal of fun.

On top of all this entertainment, there are no bots in Classic Era at this time, no gold sellers, no boosts, and none of the poison that was that frenetic drive to be first at everything . . . . And I am especially appreciating the lack of people who only think this game is about the so called end-game. The quiet is well appreciated.

Also, Classic Era dungeons and raids had huge attention to detail. You can tell that Karazhan was made way before TBC alpha because it’s not full of invisible walls (like Gruul’s Lair / Magtheridon Lair) and you can actually jump and step on everything (like in all Classic Era content).

Vanilla had so much care in it, TBC and later expansions were made on a rush by a development team that was more concerned about releasing an expansion right on time, than paying attention to detail. I would had prefered that they kept developing an slow-paced game but caring enough about it, like they did on all Classic Era content.
