FTFY.
How am I violating copyright if I log into a private server. There is nothing illegal about playing there if nothing by the user is purchased. Its not again the EULA, Activision really doesn’t care if you do.

Huh?
I would still play Classic over TBC if somehow they could make 1 or whatever amount of severs it requires for the current active players . It is to spread out over many servers . We need to migrate everyone that do play together , that way perhaps would feel more alive and could queu for bg’s.
101% agree. Finally! Someone that does not go about ranting for mental and physical torture by doing the same thing again for years and destroying other people’s efforts, and who behaves like a decent Human Being!
Can we pin this message please?
I’d like to see vanilla with some changes this time around
Can anyone suggest a realm to play vanilla on? It will probably be best if the community who wants to play vanilla just picks a destination realm and start playing there. I wouldn’t trust blizzard to make the correct decision regarding how to handle dead realms.
What your saying makes sense, however I feel like starting fresh, restarting an ended cycle…is really healthy for the population.
Whats the point of lording over an empty server all decked out? There is nothing to be scared about you’ll do fine. “Its only after you’ve lost everything that your free to do anything” -Tyler Durden.
No one plays non ladder diablo 2, literally no one, ever. The game is still loved, and played extensively to this day due exclusively to the consistent restarts. I’ve lost so many vanilla wow toons over the last 10 years on all the private servers and now on classic and its fine. Not shook. I look forward to it . Most people would be much happier / actually play vanilla after a fresh server or reset of sorts happens.
I however understand, I have a soft underbelly that needs to be catered to.
Thanks for sharing your feelings but it just brings to mind a few questions like:
Why do you need a fresh server to level a new toon? How is doing dungeons/MC/BWL/etc any different on a two year old server as opposed to a fresh a one? What advantages are there to playing the exact same old game through a series of cycling restarts, over and over? Particularly when you can do that on any server, new or old?
The answer is its not any different - except in your head (edit: and you’ll have nothing to show for the hundreds of hours you put in). Somehow people have convinced themselves that the solution to a low population in a struggling game is to recreate the exact same pattern that lead to the dead game in the first place. Dont worry about building communities, dont worry about establishing a server people can and will play on, dont worry about anything - just hit the reset button.
Era isnt in the state its in because of a lack of fresh servers - its in this state because Blizz likes money more than they like their customers and because most of those customers prefer TBC. Open up of a fresh server tomorrow (with none of the changes proposed in the survey) and you’ll just be rehashing the Classic experience over on a much smaller scale and it will end with…a dead server and another round of pleading for fresh servers.
Your fresh server will be horrifically imbalanced faction wise. Your fresh server will have a slew of people at 60 within 48-72 hours. Your fresh server will be full of bots and exploiters and on and on it goes.
A fresh server has progression, this is not possible on a stage 6 classic server. Also there are no players because the vast majority is bored to tears without somewhere to go from the end of the line. I realize TBC is considered to be progression, I kindly remind everyone TBC will dead end aswell and sooner or later something fresh will be necessary. I highly doubt it will be whatever blizzard is putting out these days so a fresh vanilla server will be what the masses demand. No new player will want to ever go to a server that is done, no done server will hold a population no matter how you try and convince new players they should hang out with your possessions when there are options to go elsewhere blizzard owned or otherwise. Losing an alt is not a big deal, the journey to the end is everything.
Saying there is nothing to show for hundreds of hours is inaccurate unless you care more of your gold and loot than the journey and community.
What?
Name one server pre TBC patch that had a majority of their players in full T3. Name one Classic Era server cluster that has all of its inhabitants in full T3 right now.
Then tell me what is stopping these people from rerolling and starting again on the same server. Why do you need a fresh server to level again and do raid content again? What kind of argument for fresh servers is that its dead when Naxx gets raided?
If a guild on your server kills KT does the server not let anyone log in anymore or something?
Ah see, here we go again - we get to the heart of the matter once again - “level playing field”. Just in case youre confused Im the one advocating for community - youre the one that says the community has to shut down and start from scratch, again and again. Thats not community building my man.
If Blizzard wants to open some fresh servers, I have no issue with that. But I absolutely DO NOT want the server where I play my main and a number of alts to be reset into a fresh.
I still enjoy leveling, farming rep and recipes, BGs when they happen. I am not personally interested in just restarting the old race.
The current Era environment is obviously underpopulated . . . but it is also quiet, free of bots, free of gold sellers/purchasers, and just generally free of the the frenzy that some players desire who want nothing but a rushed competition to ‘end game.’
Yes they are missing out on a lot. Even if they dont like it.
Its not a rush to competition. Its a rush to get where you are going.
The entire game is about improving your own characters power. That is it. By level and by improved gear. The highest level is at end game and most of the gear improvements are at that max level.
Classic was played the same way. Right up until everyone left for tbc. Did you just now start playing? Did you wait for everyone to leave so you could play in that relaxed environment? Or is the max level gameplay somehow different in tbc than classic? Same exact ppl doing the same exact things. Only thing different is that its a better designed version and has different content. The gameplay is exactly the same. Improve your characters power with level and gear.
Perhaps that’s how you play the game. Don’t speak for me please. It seems you may lack imagination.
I’m enjoying this thread.
Im not speaking for you. I am saying though that that was how the game was designed. Its how any rpg game is designed. That is what makes the genre.
I dont need to prove it but i can. Lets take away all characrer power improvements. Make everyone start from day 1 with no level improvements. Or let them boost to max level. Then make all new piece of gear have zero stats added. Lets see what would happen.
I didnt say thats how you play the game. You can play however you want. But when a game is designed and intended to be played a specific way and you chose to ignore it, well your opinion about the game is also going to be ignored. Rightfully so. It woukd be the same for a player to join a fps and then say they dont enjoy the game cause there is no character leveling.
U can be a special snowflake all you want. But u shouldnt refer to the ppl that are playing the game the way it was intended to be played with terms like “frenzy”
I think you would be a lot happier with a game like The Sims. U should try it.
Because they like it?
The only way you can make a statement like this is by being completely ignorant of whats happening right in front of your face.
Would you say that there was a difference at the launch of classic? How fast was rag cleared again?
Yes its a frenzy now that it isnt classic. Hmmhmmm right.
