Why Pelagos? (Spoilers)

I don’t get why some bottom rank Kyrian is suddenly ascending to the highest position in the Shadowlands? Without any reallly consequential actions or story? Better and more sensible candidates to be Arbiter:

  1. The Primus: By far the most active Shadowlands leader in opposing the Jailer. Also Maldraxxus is basically able to run itself now while Ardenweald and Bastion would be hurting hard without their leaders (to say nothing of Castelvania). By lore, aid to the heroes, knowledge of secrets, and any other metric he makes the most sense.

  2. Sylvannas: I actually hate this idea (or any that leaves her alive) but it’s what I expected to happen. Now something even worse may happen: she finds forgiveness through total bull*%@& and goes back to Azeroth Unscathed. It would have made some sense for her to take the position as a penance at least.

  3. Just build another Automaton (which the Arbiter was). The Arbiter has to be fair and it’s not hard to see Pelagos being Too compassionate and giving a few bad souls a second chance.

  4. Vol’jin-Still “on vacation” in ardenweald seed form. Would hate to think that they intend to leave him there forever but…yeah, prospects are dimming with Shadowlands wrapping up. Him as Arbiter would be an interesting proposition as he’d become Bwonsamdi’s ultimate boss, and would mesh with the justice inheritance from Rezan and such.

  5. Theotar-Because Theotar.

I’d like to believe it’s because they just chose names out of a hat or didn’t even read their own expansion lore.

I suspect, however, that the writers live in the same SuBv3rT eXpEcTaTiOnS bubble that Hollywood thinks is the best thing since sliced bread.

Because if you’re going to replace the thing that is sworn to serve for all eternity in deciding the fate of a soul… since the start of Shadowlands that obvious answer has been Uther.

Uther who lived a life of service, Uther who sought to continue that service after death, and Uther who saw first-hand how shirking that duty of impartiality can cause damage when he threw Arthas’ soul into the Maw out of revenge. Where he forced to confront and accept the fact that revenge is not justice, and justice is not revenge.

It would make much more sense for Pelagos to become someone who welcomes new souls to the Kyrians and orients them and makes sure they are comfortable with that duty, and for Uther to take up the mantle of Arbiter.

Yeah I thought of Uther but the guy is still missing half of HIS soul, and with the (possibly now evil?) Light probably playing hard into the next expansion story he’s probably off limits.

Non kyrian players are like

Edit:

Googled Pelagos and the first thing that comes up is a watch brand. Wonder if Blizzard will rename Pelagos to avoid copyright

I know why danuser wrote it this way, even if it makes little sense.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on that.

Actually he got that back at the end of the story. We went and got that out of the Jailer’s special place.

Pelagos is annoying as heck. Uther would be a perfect judger. But Pelegos? He’s like an annoying kid you want to see something bad happen to.

When did that happen? Or is it on the PTR?

edit: Also I’d love to hear how the Jailer ended up with the other half as we clearly saw the light “save” it in the cinematic?

Remember in the 9.1 line where you go to Torghast for that 1 soul. Then in Bastion you go through the quests as Uther? The cleansing of Stratholm and then fighting Arthas and dying in Anderhol.

That room with special named souls. Uther’s was “The first Paladin”

Pelagos was written as ‘trans’,
Lots of writers etc at Blizz are part of the lgbt community,
Ergo Danuser has Pelagos be put in to a higher-meaningful role for pandering brownie points.

Thing is, I wouldn’t mind if it made sense but this is outta thin air… no lead up what-so-ever, and I’d wager a huge majority have no idea who Pelagos even is lol

He’s the one in Korthia who makes you jump off cliffs and fly to floating balls. The one zi refuse to do

I suspect this is another DRAENOR IS FREE moment. Pelagos obviously was supposed to be developed alot further but development time sucked absolute balls this expansion and we only get 2 patches.

2 reasons pelagos is the new arbiter. The 1st reason is extremely obvious and that is the fact that they want a trans person to be a leader in some capacity or have some sort of important role. The other reason that I could see is because of the Kyrian storyline where pelagos had has to visit every covenant with you and gets to know them all all. There is a lot of foreshadowing whenever he talks about how he understands why the other covenants do the things they do and how they can relate to each other and to the Kyrian. But you are correct this is a bottom tier character that has no business being the arbiter better. But you could also argue that the lead writer has no business in his job so there’s that.

I had almost forgotten the whole “Trans” thing. I never really thought that applied to him anyway, he’s not a woman who transitioned into a man, he’s a reincarnated spirit/kyrian who was a woman in his other life (which he barely remembers). The woman died, was reborn a man of a different species…Again, apparently all species turn into blue humans → angels if they’re denizens of Bastion (for some reason).

The First Ones like the developers had a budget they needed to meet while making the Shadowlands.

I strongly dislike this character because he is so useless and cant do anything right.

He cant even ascend and they think he’s gonna sorting hat like a pro?

He is so bad he’d probably still yeet souls into the maw because he doesnt know any better

ALSO why did they make a robo trash can arbiter in the first place if they could just ascend a rando soul into its place. COME ON NOW

Pelagos being made the Arbiter is an awful idea.

Arguably, it’s a terrible idea at all that someone needs to be made into the Arbiter (rather than say fixing the Arbiter that broke, or re-birthing a new Arbiter - we’re literally in the place where Pantheons get made).

In fact - consider another road the story could have gone down: The only way to get a well functioning Arbiter is to use the Pantheon blueprints to craft the original Arbiter again… in other words, a fresh, uncorrupted Zovaal. That, actually, could have been really interesting, and would lead very nicely into consideration in the plot of what made Zovaal go so bad the first time. That’s just one idea of course, but still, would much rather have seen that than…

Arbiter Pelagos.

I didn’t think Zovval was corrupted. He just came to his own conclusion that the Shadowlands sucks.

I mean…I find it hard to believe they couldn’t simply make some troll/dwarf/tauren basic models, give them toga transmogs and recolor them blue? That doesn’t take any real resources at all.

Time man. The First Ones had a deadline to hit.
