Why patch 1.12

Something I don’t get about Blizzard, well there are a lot of things I don’t get about Blizzard but there’s this: they want the game to be as authentic as possible, they even release in « phases ». I was certain this meant they were going to release 1.0 first then 1.1 then 1.2… all the way to 1.12 in the same timeframe that it happened in Vanilla, releasing the exact bugs and fixes at the right time. Is that too much to ask?

It’s the 1.12 client with gradual content drops from previous patches added in.

I personally have no desire to live the huge bugs and class problems of early patches. Been there, done that, thanks.

But the content will be released gradually.

They probably don’t want to spend to many resources on Classic.

Yes, it is too much to ask. You seem to think that’s simple. If you understood development you’d see easily why it’s nearly impossible to recreate Vanilla patch by patch. Remember you’re paying the base subscription. Classic is an addition to it. They aren’t increasing the sub fee.

Something i don’t get about some players, well there are a lot of things i don’t get about those players but there’s this: There is Google that if you search for the reason you’re looking for… you will then understand why they only be able to do it on 1.12.0

“This was a good start, but there were issues with how the developers used to handle updates to the database data. Unlike the source code, for which Blizzard had archives for multiple branches of the game that could be worked on and developed as separate pieces, early database data was overwritten with each commensurate update. Thankfully, that problem was fixed very quickly after launch, and when we looked, we found data going back to version 1.12—and even earlier.”

" * We still had data for Patch 1.12.0 and a bit before."

But they decided to go with 1.12 because : " * We found a folder on the backup called “Final 1.12.0 data” - a backup of a backup on a backup."

So i think it was the most logic choice.

Might as well release TBC classic if all we got is the pre BC Vanilla patch :man_shrugging:

Not to mention: 1.12 was like the most stable patch in all of classic.

it’s not as easy as you think…

Because having items change all the time is annoying af, I dont want to have some sjt green item from a quest and sell it while it later becomes super good.

I would.

It would take a bag space, but … at least there is the guarantee that it will be good.

Though, the other way around exist too … items that wer previously godlike, and got nerfed to the ground.

Simple question, simple answer:

They explicitly stated that Patch 1.12 was the only full reference client they were able to find–located on a back-up of a back-up. They had no previous versions of the client to use.

So yea, having them try to recreate things that no longer existed in the 1.12 client is WAY too much to ask and would make Classic more of a guessing game as to what things were like instead of knowing 100% what things were like.

just an fyi, the game launched with 1.1.

Or items that existed but are no longer purchasable like the Unarmored Mounts that were removed in patch 1.4 even though people were still selling them to each other until at least Wrath of the Lich King. Disregard that the mounts actually appear in the game in several locations because you won’t ever be able to acquire them again… anywhere…ever…

Yes, it is too much to ask. They have a full backup of 1.12. That’s why they’re using it.

Sure they did. NO company loses any assets. They chose this because the private servers fed them with a bunch of bull saying it was the best part when it wasnt. We have nerfed content til naxx, threat mitigation huge fixes, along with class / talent changes. If you had watched and listended and read the meetings between private owners and private players they wouldnt even shut down or migrate players UNLESS 1.12 was chosen which is the EXACT same version on private servers you see here on classic. People were duped for easy money.
