Over the years, World of Warcraft has built amazing content—zones, raids, dungeons, stories, world bosses, and systems that many players never revisit once they out-level them. I think there’s a massive opportunity here: I think old expansions should fully scaled for max level players. It is not fun to one shot everything in old zones. Old zones are mostly empty because there’s no incentive to go to them. The world needs to feel alive again. It could even be a toggled feature so that it is not required.
I think this would be a great idea and opens up a ton of fun possibilities like BiS items being gathered from multiple expansions. I’m always a fan of horizontal progression over vertical.
I completely agree. This kind of system would open up so many fun possibilities. Suddenly every era of WoW becomes part of your character’s ongoing journey instead of something you outgrow and never touch again.
They already do this with Time walking, Mythic Plus, and time walking raids. but i don’t agree with old zones, and instances players have no choice to not be scaled up. It’s old content and should remain easy to farm if players chose to.
As long as its optional.
I could not agree more, because…
No it would remove people from the main expansion. But as a periodic Remix in Retail for a specific expansion for a leveling event maybe.
China is doing a similar thing with their classic titan reforged project. It 100% is a huge missed opportunity. It would be nice to see rotating old raids with old expansions that have current and viable content.
Timewalking dungeons are not questing. The vast majority of the story content in older expansions is outside of the dungeons.
People dont go back to do these things not because they arent scaled - but because they dont offer anything for end-game.
Why would I go back to kill Legion world bosses in current content?
If anything, it would bring back old players who don’t like the current expansion, and it would open up more freedom in gameplay. If players enjoy the current expansion, no one should be worried about them choosing not to play it.
Having old raids give current rewards would be horrible for the “casual” player and guild
It would be a huge benefit to the “0.1%” and “no lifers” that everyone complains about.
Speak for yourself. I think it’s lame to one-hit everything in old expansions. I actually enjoy the story of old expansions and wish I could play them at max level and unlock relevant stuff.
HENCE why I said:
Very few people are going to go back to playing old content (like world bosses) already, why would they do it if it scaled?
I’ve proposed a similar idea actually in the past, but I think they want to funnel everyone to the current expansion for the most part. If they put viable rewards in other expansions it’d spread the community out quite a bit which could affect things for sure.
Also I’m a Tower Ranger and I’d love to go back to Torghast with new rewards, or I think I would. Said the same thing about Horrific Visions but forgot a lot of the boss mechanics lol.
It would be nice if old quests were relevant. I’d like more old content, aside from raids and dungeons, to be relevant. I feel like people only experience a small fraction of the games content.
okay raid team, to maximize our loot, this week we’re doing:
- first boss of soo mythic
- first three bosses of hfc mythic, plus last boss on heroic
- bosses 2, 4, and 7 of ulduar on heroic
- we will not be doing the current raid because we won’t have time
Yep.
Limited time and 20 raids to choose from?
Hope your bis drops on the first try or you will wait 3 months for a second attempt
people think they hate raid loot now? wait until they go a month without even a chance at a piece they need because nobody else wants to bother.
I can’t wait to get a mythic ilvl razor coral from lady ashvane and never have to worry about the slot literally ever again ![]()
I’m a fan for expansion-wide horizontal progression, but I personally believe that taking a vertical step each expansion keeps things moving. It would be an awful feeling imo for a new tier to come out just for it to have more or less nothing drop wise.
