Why not return previous abilities to Rogue?

Let’s just take a look at Warlords of Draenor for example:

Burst of Speed made it the fastest class in the game, it was appropriate for the theme.
Death From Above was a baseline PvE ability and one of the coolest looking things in the game.
Shuriken Throw was a spammable projectile that also replaced your auto-attacks with high damage projectiles and felt incredible to play with and made midrange playstyle viable, especially in PvP.

…And there’s probably much more.

Why can’t they just bring back what they took away from rogues in the past? The class needs help, simply giving it back what was stripped away would make great strides.

They could but at this point they need to fix existing abilities and talents first.

A summary of what’s there:

  1. Agonizing Poison - Stacking Lethal Poison which increased damage taken from Rogue.
  2. Ambidexterity - Increases damage dealt by off-hand weapon.
  3. Assassin’s Resolve - Maximum energy and damage increased.
  4. Bandit’s Guile - Sinister strike increases all damage by a varying amount.
  5. Blindside - Execute ability, Mutilate granted chance to make it usable on any target.
  6. Bribe - Similar to Priest’s Mind Control vs. non-player humanoid targets only.
  7. Burst of Speed - Removed snares and increased movement speed.
  8. Cannonball Barrage - High damage AoE cooldown that also slowed enemies.
  9. Cloak and Dagger - Granted Ambush, Garrote, and Cheap shot 40 yd range + teleport.
  10. Cold Blood (PvP) - Next Cheap Shot or Shadowstrike deal 10% of target’s max health.
  11. Combat Readiness - Defensive cooldown reducing damage taken per hit taken.
  12. Create: Crimson Vial - Rogue’s version of Warlock Health Stones.
  13. Critical Strikes - Crit chance increased by 10%, baseline.
  14. Curse of the Dreadblades - Generators fill combo points, but drain health.
  15. Deadly Throw - Ranged finisher which also snared target.
  16. Death from Above - Flashy finisher move.
  17. Detect Traps - Increases trap detection radius. (Still technically in game?)
  18. Disarm Trap - Disarm hostile trap. (Still technically in game)
  19. Energetic Recovery - Slice and Dice increased energy regen while active.
  20. Expose Armor - Non-damaging generator which reduced enemy’s armor temporarily.
  21. Ghostly Strike - Generator that also increased dodge chance.
  22. Goremaw’s Bite - High damage cooldown which generated energy and combo points.
  23. Growl (Symbiosis) - Druid utility granting psuedo tank taunt when used on rogues.
  24. Hunger For Blood - Maintenance buff increasing damage vs. bleeding targets.
  25. Kingsbane - (Very similar to what was restored onto the Assassination tree)
  26. Leather Specialization - +5% agility while wearing only leather.
  27. Neurotoxin - Increased cooldown of target’s abilities for a time.
  28. Nightblade - Finisher similar to Rupture, but with slow and bonus damage mechanics.
  29. Paralytic Poison - Non-Lethal stacking poison which stuns at 4 stacks.
  30. Parley - CC similar to Demon Hunter’s “Imprison”
  31. Plunder Armor - Steal 10% max health and armor from target.
  32. Premeditation - Adds combo points vs. target (when combo points were target-specific)
  33. Preparation - Resets cooldown of all other Rogue abilities.
  34. Recuperation - Separate maintenance buff to regen health over time.
  35. Redirect - Transfers combo points to new target (when combo points were target-specific)
  36. Revealing Strike - Generator increasing damage of finishers vs. target.
  37. Riposte - Counterattack to damage and disarm after parrying attack.
  38. Riposte (v2) - Parry and Riposte all attacks for a short time.
  39. Saber Slash - Works nearly identical to Sinister Strike on Outlaw Rogue today.
  40. Sanguinary Vein - Deal more damage to target afflicted by your bleed effects.
  41. Shadow Reflection - Delayed “mirror image” which duplicates abilities used.
  42. Shadow Walk - Significantly increases stealth effectiveness for 6 seconds.
  43. Shiv (PvP)- (Similar to modern non-PvP ability)
  44. Sinister Calling - More agility and multistrike, multistrikes cause bleeds to tick faster.
  45. Swiftblade’s Cunning - Raid buff increasing haste and multistrike by 5%.
  46. Taste of Blood - Stacking movement speed increasing when killing humanoids.
  47. Toxic Blade - (Similar to Shiv upgrades in Assassination tree)
  48. Vitality - Increased energy regeneration and attack power for Outlaw Rogues.
  49. Dismantle - Disarm target.
  50. + Various other bland stat increasing passives in old/classic talent trees/glyphs, though some are interesting like allowing Sprint to grant water walking while active.
