Why not log deaths and downtime?

The idea seems extremely simple so I’m curious if there’s some technical reason or something? Log all deaths in hardcore and figure out when the server downtime was. Both of these things can be automated, but they could have some manual oversight as well (manually approve resurrections so they aren’t made in error, confirm downtime was legitimate). Sure, I guess someone could DDoS the servers preemptively as they’re about to die, but that seems pretty unlikely. Honestly, it all seems like the bare minimum for the game mode.

Just make it so if you DC you’re instantly removed from the game.

I did wonder about that, but I’m certain there’d be people who just disconnect on purpose to avoid dying. Then everyone would probably start doing the same because otherwise you can’t compete with the cheaters.

There’s no competing. This is a non competitive game. No matter what is chosen, people will always do what they can to cheat the system.

This is impossible. The game doesn’t know you’ve disconnected, it just knows you’ve stopped responding to its requests and after a certain amount of time it boots you because of that. If you reduce the amount of time it takes before it boots people eventually you start booting them inaccurately. Basically, they could tighten the restraints more, but there is a point where it will create more problems than it solves. They may already be as low as they are comfortable with (or technically capable of), but I have no idea.

As far as server instability goes if the server is crapping out, regardless of reason, it’s highly unlikely that any safeguards they put in place can save people playing.

Insofar as bringing back people who have died during a timeframe that’s identified as when the server went down; It’s technically possible, but I doubt they’re going to get into this territory regardless. I just don’t think it’s a can of worms they ever intend on opening.

Too true. That’s why I like that there’s no way to recover a dead character. The second that seal breaks all too many people will be rushing to exploit it

Totally agree I dont know why people are complicating this or why blizzard refuses to budge on such a simple fix that costs them next to nothing.

Why not death = delete?

More like this is harder to exploit, so you don’t want it.
