Anyone else think this expansion’s early gear progression is just bizarre? Normal dungeon drop ilvl caps out at 554 but the requirement for Heroic Dungeons is 567. That doesn’t make any sense. And I can’t ever remember Blizz making the barrier to simple Heroic dungeons so much less straight forward. Seems very unnecessary.
It’s not how progression works in this game you have Delves and Dungeons for Normal gear, then Delves and Heroics for heroic gear. Then Delves and M+ for season track gear then all of that leads to Heroic and Mythic raiding.
How does that conflict with what I’m saying though? I can’t think of any other expansion where you couldn’t gear up for Heroic dungeons by doing Normal dungeons. That’s the case currently. Normal dungeons do not drop gear that is high enough to meet the threshold to queue for Heroic dungeons. That sounds incredibly unintuitive.
Because they increased the difficulty and rewards for heroic dungeons.
It’s very dumb but just look around. Dumb is the new kewl.
Different but not bizarre.
Just have to get some open world stuff this time.
Personally, I think making Heroics part of the seasonal pool was the stupid part.
- Burning Crusade - Not only could you only run normals for gear, but you HAD to. In order to buy a Key just to UNLOCK specific heroics, you needed rep with that faction.
- Wrath - They removed Keys, but you still had to grind normals, to then grind heroics, to then run Icecrown or Ulduar at a shot at better gear and IceCrown was preferred for the tokens and Tier sets with bonuses. Even PvP had seasonal gear that helped you get better gear.
- Cataclysm - Normals > Heroics > eventually farming Firelands for even better tier gear with the rep vendor, now available for gold in SW/Org
The reason you cannot think of them is cause you never played them. MoP introduced Mythics, and it became the next tier of dungeoning. Normal dungeons Will drop that gear if you got lucky enough to get the drops. The trick is to hit 80, craft some 564s (or buy them) and then run Delves to help get into Heroics.
I agree. When I popped into that one cata dungeon, can’t remember what it’s called, it sparked some PTSD from catas heroics xD.
LOL right?!
The gear progression just forces you out into the world. World Quests and activities can give Explorer, Adventurer, and Veteran gear. Also, running Tier 5 bountiful delves gives Veteran gear if you’re not ready for Tier 8 delves. I think it’s an interesting choice by Blizzard to funnel players into activities other than pure dungeon spamming. I’m enjoying the current system for gearing up alts. I just buy the 3 Veteran pieces of rep gear and then roam around doing world quests, and get to ilevel 567 pretty quick.
I’m surprised this hasn’t been fixed.
It doesn’t need fixing. Other sources of gear are now available to get players from 554 to 567. Some of those avenues can actually surpass 567, making H dungeons optional instead of required.
But why should players have to? It’s great that other progression paths exist. But it doesn’t make sense to force players to do other activities to gear when we’ve pretty much always been able to go straight from Normal to Heroic dungeons in the past.
Nah they are faceroll easy. Honestly I could easily heal them at much lower ilvl like 530
I think the tech wasn’t there originally to scale up items and now its kind of like tradition
You’d rather sit in a queue (most players are dps) than actively do something that isn’t waiting around, to get to the same place (567+) ?
heroes are still faceroll and infinitely easier than M0. theres still a huge gap between the two.
MoP did in fact not introduce mythics, they had “Challenge Modes”, with Mythic as a raid difficulty which was just a renamed Heroic. The dungeon difficulty called “Mythic” was introduced in Legion.
If you are going to um actually, get your information correct.
this. although, naming things is not a consistent thing for Blizzard.
They created a raiding flex mode, then they renamed it to Normal, then they made normal (now heroic) flexible… so they’re all flex mode, while having a flex mode.
So the term MYTHIC was introduced in MoP, and it was a specific level of difficulty. Aside from needing to be pedantic, Yeah. TRUE mythic dungeons did not get added til Legion. Which means they have been around for 8 years, and their level of difficulty as a modifier for 12 years.
Better?
