Why not disable racials in M+?

Seems like a simple solution to a handful of racials being silly good while the majority are bad. I mean sure they could buff the majority of races that are never good in raid/M+ so those players wouldn’t feel bad for not picking from a couple of good races from the long list of options in an RPG but the easy fix seems the most likely to actually get implemented.

It really doesn’t matter to like a super majority of players what race you play in any content. A few super try hards will claim it’s necessary for 3k RIO but it’s not.

You couldn’t pay me to play a hairy potato midget just because of the racial.

Because it would have to be a genuine problem to begin with. Some folks will claim it is, but the problem is that racials impact what strategies people employ. There’s not actually any problem with some strategies being more powerful than other ones simply because… remove those, and other “oppressively strong strategies” emerge instead.

So in short, it isn’t a problem and even if one want to treat it as a problem, it would be an unsolvable one. Because you effectively ban racials, then the response will be “but what about X oppressive thing” and so on.

Racials literally exist to provide options for strategies and utility. There being some races that are more powerful in some situations isn’t a negative thing, and for those who want those specific advantages, it is a feature.


If one isn’t a fan of that, then don’t care about that then. There’s nothing in the game that dictates that you have to play or use one thing or another. Furthermore, here’s a fun thing…

Did you know that the most powerful race, in terms of DPS, are Mechagnomes? Yet… folks don’t play them for their “sick dps gains.” People who choose to play one race or another for their racials do so because they want to do so. Otherwise Mechagnomes would be unironically the most popular race in the entire game bar none.

If pushing m+ is your endgame, you were probably already playing night elf or dwarf already anyway. And outside of some niche DH Shadowmeld skips, they’re not all that important anymore. At least not as much as they used to be. Even then, they were only important for people trying to min/max…and everyone else could just ignore them as they can now.

Before this season I didn’t care about racials as much as xmog appearances. Now, I’m so grateful to have Will to Survive. I’ve never been stunned so much in pve.

Racials only matter in the very high keys where Blizzard doesn’t really care about balance.

How exactly does negating mechanics entirely not “matter” until very high keys?

A more correct statement would be that people doing low and easy content don’t actually understand how powerful certain racials are.

Anyway, they need to be disabled in raids, too. It used to be that when a racial was found to work on a boss fight, it would be hotfixed to not work. Voodoo Shuffle on Jaina being a classic example.

But these days? They design the raids on purpose to be cheesed with racials. Stoneform/Fireblood, Escape Artist, and Void Elf teleport to give some recent examples.

But they’re all Alliance racials, so Blizzard is fine with that.

Got to 3k easy with a Vulpera Warrior Tank. Despite being the literal worst in slot for evey class in damage.

Averaging Edit: 2.8+Mil with their dps too.

WoW players wont accept it. A embarrassing amount of people pay to swap toons for better racials in competitive content even if they are no where near that level.

Banning something is basically implying or admitting there’s a problem.

Racials in WoW, are not a problem.

Outside of a very fringe minority in this game, most people don’t care about the racials their chose race has. And certainly no one feels bad about not picking a race with a “powerful” racial, again, outside of a fringe minority.

The vast majority of people who play Night Elves do so because they like the aesthetics. Like wise with Orcs, Gnomes, Foresaken, Dwarves, etc., and will continue to do so because most of the time, outside of maybe once in a nightly play session, do their racials make an impact on their game.

Not really no, they provide important advantages in the top escalations of competitive play that shouldn’t exist.

Still wow players get uppity when you suggest people should play what race they like cosmetically after they sacrificed that choice for utility.

There are literally zero unavoidable stuns in PVE this season.

Can’t, its rarely dmg racials that are the issue ( mop was the last time with beast slaying and thok and that effectively killed high end alliance raiding for a decade).

Its things like removing status effects or dropping combat like nelf. You need it baseline or not at all

If one wants a particular racial, then swap to that race. Please don’t campaign for their removal.
