Ever thought of making a Battle Royale mode in WoW? It is basically 100 people in a Battleground that shrinks over time and leaves one player alive.
You could scale the reward say Top 3, top 20, Top 50. If you die you get removed from the BG and can queue again to try and be the person who is the last one standing.
I know you are worried about exploiting it but pretty obvious exploiting a system that large does not work. Every single issue people could have with this system has been proven to not be reality given PubG and Fornite being real life examples where these systems have been implemented.
Blizzard obviously has no issues hijacking Diablo features and putting them in WoW so why not Overwatch type features?

There are some spots that have something like that. There is an arena in Strangletorn and one in Dire Maul. Think there are spots in Outlands as well.
It isn’t organized the way you are suggesting but the idea is the same, everyone who enters is flagged to be attacked by anyone else.

So basically, disc priests will win everytime?
In a game of many different (lol) classes that will forever be unbalanced you cannot have “battle royale” in any competitive way.

The Hunger Games, but with Warcraft.

I think it would be cool and faction imbalance would not be an issue because it is a battle royale mode.
So a rogue would only have to stay in stealth until everyone else is dead… then wait it out until the lone survivor falls asleep or quits in disgust? This could be fun (giggle).

“Aaand now we come to the final two players of this epic Battle Royale for World of Warcraft… and… It’s a Resto Druid and a Holy Paladin. We’ll pick the action back up in 3 weeks when one of these players finally manages to force the other to dip below 50% mana.”

They did this in WoD. It was hot garbage.

It can’t work since the game is not balanced for 1v1. Rogues and ferals would simply stealth to the end and pop cd’s to finish the last disc priest/blood dk off. It would be fun for about 5 games and then become irrelevant.
The only way wow could have something like this is basically copy ashes of creation apocalypse. It is the only medieval fantasy battle royal that I know of.
Players start with no spells, armor, or weapons. You run around and pick up your armor, spells, and weapons. You could be a warrior in wow but in wow battle royal you could parachute in and pick up a fireball spell.
This assumes Demon Hunters do not use spectral site or others uses potions and wreck Rogues. Stealth was the end all be all but if a Rogue tries it on a Pally with their CD’s up they are going to get facerolled.
In these games btw you do start with nothing and pick up your equipment. It is just a thought to throw out there.
Basically this response. Anything else on the rest of my post? Google Ashes of creation apocalpyse and see for yourself. It would be the only balanced way to do a medieval fantasy battle royal.
Since Activision shifted their server architecture to be more cloud based it has become pretty obvious that it can’t support more than 20-30 people in any one area without huge latency issues.
Kinda makes you wonder how they’re going to work classic.
I would love to see something like this but that would most likely require Activision actually investing money in the game.

It can be 40 v 40 then. Does not have to be some huge number although that would be preferable.
Worried about healers? Create a stacking debuff as the bubble shrinks. I have seen these guys come up with some absolutely amazing raid content but put out some of the most lazy PVP design I have ever seen.
It is an entire section of the game that feels tacked on.
The Blizz of today doesn’t like to take risks like that.

In the first Arena, Guburashi Arena in Stranglethorn Vale, it was a free-for-all ever 4 hours for a chest.
In Mists of Pandaria, you could get an item that made your hostile to all players. This lead to a lot of complaints from people who didn’t want to PVP because their AOEs would tag these people and flag them for PVP.
In Legion, there were AOE areas in the World. People complained about these quest areas flagging them so a timer was added to warn them of this. An item was added that allowed you to flag as hostile for everyone. My Paladin died due to this a couple of times just because you don’t see someone of your faction as hostile. Really dampened my thoughts about participating in PVP more.
They have had mixed success with this concept in the past.
I don’t give Blizzard $15 a month to play Fortnite. I can so that for free if I wanted.
Blizzard has hijacked features from every single other MMO and games in existence. This is just a theory craft on how to apply what is obviously popular concept to WoW and see if it would work.
It is almost as if Blizzard is becoming more like Apple where they do not innovate but integrate. They wait for someone else to come up with an idea then put it in WoW.
It wouldn’t work. Disc priest or rogue would win 99% of the time.
The servers can barely handle world pvp, this won’t happen.
