Why nobody plays Tank, and why Tanks deserve to get Buffed

Playing as a tank you have much greater responsibility. You literally are the unspoken leader, and more rests on your shoulders than any other individual player in the group.

I think that added responsibility and difficulty should come with more payoff.
But it feels like Blizzard doesn’t take that into account when they “balance” the classes.

The main reason people who’d normally like to play a tank and take on that extra responsibility don’t play tanks is because it’s extremely boring with how little damage it does. You take twice as long to do solo content because you’re just smacking the enemies with your low damage attacks, especially single target.

This is mostly because Blizzard is obsessed with making every class exactly perfectly equal to each other. Tanks have high survivability? Better nerf their damage into the ground!!

If you increased the damage of tanks significantly it would not make DPS players irrelevant. I’m not saying tanks should do more damage or even perfectly equal damage to DPS, but you should be able to compete on the damage meter as a tank who knows what they’re doing and has their rotation mastered.

Most people still won’t want the responsibility or extra stress that comes with tanking, but far more people will play it than they do currently, because currently the people who are willing to take on the extra responsibility and stress aren’t willing to do it because it’s perceived as boring. And they’re right, it IS boring.

The majority of pugs are desperate for a tank, tanks are the main thing most guilds are looking for. There’s an obvious shortage, and Blizzard instead of doing something about it just offers little rewards for Heroic dungeons and raid finder as if that’s going to make people want to play Tank. (Hint: it doesn’t, not even for that lower end content, let alone higher end stuff without extra rewards for tanks)

Disingenuous people will say “oh people just don’t play tanks because of the abuse they suffer in pugs!!”

Excuse me, have you played WoW before? EVERY role receives abuse in pugs.
And besides that M+ and raiding guilds where you play with your friends in a better environment than a pug are STILL short on tanks.

As tank I don’t buy that excuse whatsoever, it’s not my experience at all and you have so much leverage in a pug as a tank (because there’s so few tanks) anyone who gives you crap is more likely to get kicked than you are, so it’s really not an issue whatsoever.

TL;DR: The damage of tanks needs to be increased yesterday, it’s a good thing for the entire community, and it will drastically reduce the shortage of tanks in pugs and group content.

Ummmm…

Isn’t this the whole reason they let you change spec / talent tree live and made gear more friendly to being more likely to be common between specs? If you are a healer/tank, you probably need an offspec for when you are questing or running dailes. If a tank did as much DPS as a DPS class, why not have a whole RAID group of tanks? Peak RAID comp having every player be a Pallidan tank right?

They always make playing tanks NOT FUN.

They nerfed tanks, they changed trinkets to do less damage when used by tanks…

At the end of the day, I think the person responsible for Tank design at Blizzard doesn’t really listen to the tank community at all.

And they have access to these communities as many devs participate in these class discords.

i love playing as a tank. I have 2 now, one demon hunter (so fun) and 2nd a blood death knight.

I really love that chains sigil (sucks i lost a charge on that nerf a while ago) and I really love the death knight get over here grab…

I feel i live more on my death knight with a lower item level score than my demon hunter but double jump gliding is a blast…

They used to do as much DPS as dps almost and that didn’t happen, because most players still don’t want the added difficulty, stress, and responsibility that come with tanking.

This is too common sense to the OP.

In no world do I run Blood in the open world doing world quests and what not, I swap to unholy. It takes 10 seconds and about 3 minutes to adjust my gameplay

You’re missing the point entirely. That’s great for world content but that doesn’t work in groups. You picked one small piece of my argument and pretend as if you debunked what I said, which you didn’t. Besides that, if Blizzard wants more people to play tanks, they should make them strong in the open world so we don’t have to switch to begin with.

Knock it off. As a tankall you need to do is stand in the right spot and then mash your face on the keys. Litrrally the easiest role in the game.

Stop it.

The tank community wants godhood. They should not be listened to.

No, actually, that’s what a DPS player does. As a tank you have to mitigate, do damage, move more than any other player, avoid mechanics more than any other player. You’re just wrong. Have you never tanked in a raid before?

Tanks stand in mechanics and live.

At most, they taunt swap.

And sure some bosses have positioning requirements.

I’ve been playing my Guardian Druid at a higher level now for a bit under 2 years.

I love tanking. Tanking Heroic Raids and high level M+ keys.

There’s nothing wrong with tanks, a lot of people just don’t have the skill to play one.

The issue with tanks is that dungeons need 1 tank per 5 person group but other content needs very few tanks. Tanks are choosers when it comes to dungeons and beggars when it comes to raids and group pvp.

I play a tank but I accept buffs make me GOD LIKE :sunglasses:

Not really.
You don’t know anything.

And lastly:

You shouldn’t be listened.
In fact, you should be put on ignore by everyone.

It will be better for everyone’s mental health. And general health too.

I recently started tanking and I’m having a good time.

The only thing that kept me from tanking in WoW is the lack of diversity in the tanking fantasy… all the options in WoW are edgy boys or a drunk buffon

In Overwatch i could tank by playing Dva or Orisa very cute.

In league of legends i never played the jungle role because it was full of ugly monster champions but recently they’ve added cute options like Lilia.

If they can’t make any new tanks i would suggest making bear into the cute tank, using flowers and fauna incorporated more into their visuals.

Nah, tanks need to do less damage than dps.

That’s the whole point of the trinity this game is based on (and whatever Augmentation is)

Tanks: High defense, low damage, low healing
Healers: High healing, low damage, low defense
DPS: High damage, low defense, low healing
Warlocks: Mushrooms.

You clearly haven’t heard the complaints from tanks.

They want to be able to live without the need of a healer. That is godhood.

Tank has more responsibility, it should get more in return. Even medium damage would suffice, enough for us to compete on the dps meter if we’re really good, but not necessarily be the top dps.

I’d be ok with tanks getting a talent like WoD Gladiator that greatly increases their damage output but makes them completely unviable as tanks.

There, now you can kill stuff in open world content faster without taking 3 seconds to change specs.
