Why no guilds need tank?

Have you guys ever seen any recruitment advertisement looking for tanks? I have never seen any, I have seen 3 Thunderfury tanks gquit or quit gaming in the past few months, but i have not seen any guild looking for tanks at all, are their tanks all that good? Where are the bad tanks, and why they are not being replaced?

Doing a few dungeon make you feel tank is so easy to find a job, then you just hit a wall trying to get in a raiding guild as tank

Most of the time tanks are made from already established guild members, since they tend to get funneled loot people will be much more likely to lean towards making an established DPS warrior into a tank rather than recruiting outside the guild for one

You only need 2-3 dedicated tanks in the 40 man roster. That’s ~6% of the raid as tanks.

In dungeons however, you need a full 20% of the group as a tank.

Its supply and demand. The supply may be low, but the demand is even lower for raid tanks.

How many raiding guilds on your server are clearing BWL each week? Multiple that number by 2 and you have the amount of dedicated tanks your server needs. However most of these guilds need 10 healers and 28 dps per those 2 tanks.

As a result you see a lot of guilds in need of healers and dps, but not in need of tanks. Plus tanking requires a LOT of gear, and most guilds don’t want to recruit new tanks and funnel them gear, so they have dps within their guild transition into a tanking roll if they have a need for a new tank.

Not really for main but I do see adds for OT, primarily bears and certain warrior hybrids pretty frequently in which seems like a natural way of running your tanks. Prove yourself a good OT and we’ll let you MT

Because the GM is the main tank… if a guild loses their MT the guild is probably no more, they then just form a new one.

Na, most of the time the GM is not the MT, if the GM is MT, there is more than a 50% chance he is bad and the only reason he is in that position is to be brought to raids and get gear.

I am a MT and I am not the GM, I have no interest in being a GM, I just assist the raid lead and tank the bosses.

lol because you aren’t GM doesn’t mean that isn’t the case 95% of the time. Every hardcore guild on both servers I play on are 100% GM’d by the MT and I assure you they are better than you!

OK I am going to give you the road map to becoming a tank in a guild if that is what you want to do.

Find yourself a weekly pug that needs a tank, make sure that they do not let DPS roll on tank gear, T1 is not bad at all for a starting tank, you can effectively tank in 8/8, is it BIS? absolutely not, however, it will get you a good amount of threat stats and defense stats. Get your gear and a good tanking weapon. You will have a solid foundation at that point.
Then work on getting hit capped(THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT). You can start picking and choosing pieces to replace to gain more threat, you can get some blue rings, maybe a few pieces from ZG pugs such as the hit rating cloak ECT.

Then you can start applying to a guild or maybe advertise yourself in that pug and you might get responses from guilds that are looking for a tank and the pugs that are impressed with your tanking skill.

Try joining a guild as dps/OT and let them know you are interested in MT position if one opens up down the road. You should start getting funneled gear MT doesnt need. Then when you get your chance to MT dont blow it. Lol

That does not change what I said at all, IDK why you felt the need to say what you did, because it doesn’t make sense. Are there GM tanks that are top tier, yea, but that still doesn’t change what I said.

Because raid tanking requires less tanks per other members of the group than dungeons.

So raid tanks tend to hold onto their spots more than dps and there are less spots available to begin with.

You are also dealing with a lot of guilds that use a feral tank as an OT that is able to MT all fights right now. Feral tanks tps (threat per second) is actually insane. Our guilds feral tank even tanked Nef, Including after the Druid call.

As others have said, right now most guilds that have had BWL on farm for months already have fully geared main tanks and are funneling tank gear to their fury warriors.

So if they lose main tanks, they just convert a fury warrior that already has a bunch of T2.

Our GM does not MT either of our raids. He did Tank Ony 1 time on his Pally for fun though!
The GM before him did not MT.
My alts guild does not have it’s GM as the MT.

There, my anecdotal evidence says yours isn’t correct.

Tanks are always in demand for dungeon content & it’s easy to form your own dungeon/ZG PUG with them, but life is tougher past that point. Just another example of how the Vanilla/Classic game design breaks down past dungeon-level PvE content for a lot of class/specs.

Long story short: You want the GM or a trusted member to be the tanks in order to always show up and not bail on the guild since it can set them backs months. The gear and time/gold investment is real in classic.

If you dps hard enough I’m sure you can be the main tank. Just keep working at it. You’ll get there.
