Why no flight yet in the Blood Elf areas and Quel'Danas?

I think we should just delete the maw. Scorched earth.

That is what Silvermoon looks like from the air.

Hence why flying is disabled there.

Reminds me when Gilneas was broken for several years and wasn’t worth fixing for them until they updated the female model.

This is different though as pointed out. It wasn’t designed for flight.

Regardless of that these zones have existed for 17 years and remained weirdly secluded without flight.

Yep.

The Draenei and Blood Elf zones are technically in the Outland instance.

Well, it is “hell,” yanno?

Basically Quel’danas is not part of the EK, it’s it’s own separate instanced zone connected by what is effectively a raid portal, and the zone itself is a 2D mess of a graphical error.

That’s why. It’s also part of Outland instead of EK, from when Outland didn’t have flying.

salutes standing in the Maw “Sir, instructions unclear, the earth is already scorched! Sir!!”

The official reason there is no flying in the Blood Elf starting zones (Eversong Woods and Ghostlands) is rooted in how the zones were originally designed. These areas were created during World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion and are technically part of the “Outland” content rather than the core Azeroth world. This led to unique technical limitations:

  1. Old World Architecture: The Blood Elf starting zones were built on a separate map file from the main Azeroth continents (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms). Flying was not originally implemented in these zones because they were designed as ground-only zones, with incomplete skybox textures and no 3D modeling for areas that players wouldn’t normally see from the ground.
  2. Graphical Inconsistencies: The terrain and buildings in Eversong Woods and Ghostlands weren’t designed to be viewed from above. Allowing flying would expose unfinished or poorly detailed areas, breaking immersion.
  3. Technical Legacy: When Cataclysm allowed flying in Azeroth, Blizzard reworked the original continents to enable it. However, since the Blood Elf (and Draenei) starting zones are separate maps, they were not included in this update. Adding flying to these zones would require reworking and connecting them to the main world, which Blizzard has never prioritized.
  4. Gameplay Focus: Blizzard likely considered the cost-to-benefit ratio of enabling flying in these zones and determined it wasn’t worth the significant resources required for such a limited area. Additionally, players typically move on from the Blood Elf starting zones relatively quickly, reducing the incentive to update them.

Cause it is not Midnight yet. 12.0

Theres nobody there, why go through the trouble of adding flight to a zone players will never enter.

There were reports of Taurens taking a dump while flying by, causing much stress and indignation for the residents of Silvermoon city, so the Blood Elves banned flying :frowning:

Eversong Forest, Ghostland, and Silvermoon City are an add on to the TBC server and wasn’t completely finished.

Quel’thalas is a unused zone on the main Eastern Kingdom server, which explains why you can’t swim around the Eastern Kingdom completely.

Will they be doing the space goat starting zones as well?

This is exactly what I’m expecting too. I don’t see them making the “Cataclysm” mistake all over again and basically deleting entire swaths of beloved zones/quests from the game. So I’m sure “old” Quel’Thalas will remain exactly as it is, accessible via portal or Chromie Time or Zidormi or whatever, and we’ll just get another “new” Quel’Thalas in addition.

I’m really, really excited for a QT revamp, but I don’t expect them to change the existing version—and I pray they don’t, because it would be a real loss.
