I definitely would not say that, FSR 3.1 for example is useable on old and underpowered GPUs and would make a massive difference for people on those cards.
FSR 3.1 comes in on 5000 and newer AMD cards, which released in 2019. WoW runs just fine on cards made back in 2013 (tested using my old pc that still has a 780). Itâs absolutely overkill, wow is not a graphically intensive game itâs a computationally heavy game.
The use case where upscaling is useful for wow is laptop IGPs.
Good for APUs/Mac laptops, but not really that beneficial for full desktops (unless youâre doing something like running a 9800x3d+4060 at 4k).
That said, I wonder if DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS is even worth it on APUs/iGPUs.
For example, Iâm running already at 50% render scale, thatâs a 1:4 upscale which is already pretty huge.
DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS will definitely use more resources than FSR 1.0 and Iâm already on a knifeâs edge resource-wise.
It might not be worth it if you have to drop the native resolution even further to get 60 fps 90% of the time.
Right now FSR 1.0 works surprisingly well for what it is - a spatial only upscaler.
WoW IMHO might not benefit from DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS (vs FSR 1.0) as much as other games because it isnât really a high detail game - textures are simple and honestly arenât that high resolution; the only gain would be polygon edges but it might not be worth the cost in that case.
To really gain value on the upscale in those cases, it would need to be FSR 3.1, XeSS, or MetalFX (Apple) for the upscaler, since I donât think any of the Nvidia GPUs that support DLSS should really be struggling with wow.
Damn. I didnât even know Apple had its own upscaler for its GPUs.
I suppose it does make sense since iPhones and iPads would need it too and asking developers to port FSR (any version) would be quite an effort.
I wonder what the performance and image quality is vs FSR 1.0 and DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS.
I donât really know performance, but FSR 1.0 image quality is pretty bad when doing upscaling.
I would use Civ 7 to test the MetalFX options, but theyâre currently broken in that game and just produce a black screen.
Itâs good for what it is and itâs really cheap.
While DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS might be sharper, they also eat significantly more resources - e.g. all the extra sampling from previous frames is going to eat into the already meager memory bandwidth on iGPUs; my M4 baseline only has 120GB/s.
DLSS/FSR>=2.0/XeSS is really good at saving shading cost but WoW isnât a shader heavy game.
FSR 1.0 also is ghosting free 100%.
As far as DLSS it is more niche because of how restrictive Nvidia is, the earliest form of DLSS was (I believe) supported by the 20 series of GPUs. If you go back to a 2060 there may be some struggling but I overall agree that the greatest benefit would come from FSR 3.1, which can be applied to a wide range of cards from different manufacturers and etc.
Bumping because yes pls
FSR is quite good and would allow a ton more people to play
first they should add multicore/threading with cpu :). itâs completely garbage atm and the biggest bottleneck.
WoW is a 20-year-old game. Not all new technologies will be supported. If the systems engineers and Blizzard themselves think itâs viable to support it (like they did with ray-tracing shadows), then theyâll update the game appropriately. But if youâre expecting Blizzard to just snap their fingers and add new technology to the game the moment itâs available? Yeah, youâre living in a dream world.
Blizz donât care, just glareâŠ
Plain and Simple.
Everyone whoâs complaining still paying, still playingâŠ
Thatâs it, have a good day.
If Blizzard has foresight they will realise there are also no longer playing former customers that donât play anymore for varies reasons. One of which could be because of the graphics. Improving graphics might bring some of those back.
It could also prevent loss of new players who take one look at the game and write it off.
Someone go log on fortnite on your pc.
Put everything to max.
It is a complete different looking game.
I wish wow would do the same.
Gotta give them more time, its like they can live maintatian the game and work on the engine in a day, its probably coming
