I mean… that same person asked me why I didn’t mention homophobia in a comment I made above.
After I made the blanket statement of “I don’t like to see discrimination based on sexual preference” even. So honestly if you are going to say “I know what they meant” you should say the same to that person.
Well that’s not settled science. It’s not based on solely physical attractions and it is based on choice. There’s plenty of men and women that made the choice to be with the person they were with, even if they weren’t considered by the public as “Attractive”. A lot of people CHOOSE to be with each other because of principles, morals, financial reasons, etc. Some people also CHOOSE to not be a homosexual, because they tried it, and it wasn’t for them.
Some people handle it better than others. I’m not trying to excuse anybody’s behaviour, just pointing out that the hostility might be defence mechanism developed out of necessity.
But here in WoW, including an LGBT romance subplot hurts nobody, but acknowledges a currently under represented community of people.
And to the people who have that kind of trauma, it matters a great deal.
No, I’m just wondering why you made it a point to ask why I excluded homophobia when it was strongly implied in my comment that I don’t like it and then you would neglect to comment on the issue of heterophobia.
Heterophobia is not a rampant issue affecting thousands of adolescents’ mental health like homophobia and transphobia is. You (general you) are not oppressed for being straight. Nor are you ordered by society at large for being straight. It’s just not all about straights.
I actually work for an organization with men that are very frequently homosexuals and are littered with problems. Drug use and alcoholism in the Homosexual community is a very serious problem. We have many, many, many men that come in and have lived an entire life of homosexuality and then find they don’t want that life for themselves anymore. We help them step away from that life and help them with their Drug use and Alcoholism. It’s sad because some of them don’t even make it, the suicide rates in that lifestyle is horrendous.
