It’s not going to make people immediately turn around and not support LGBT people but it will make people be abrasive back and get tired of hearing about it constantly because people begin to feel like they can’t engage with the LGBT community if they aren’t going to blindly agree with everything they say, lest they be labeled a homophobe or bigot.
It erodes support for LGBT people and slows down progress, and even if you don’t think you act the way I described in the paragraph above you are making excuses for people.
Whatever you think you’re doing here, it’s not helping your cause.
Honestly this video is so misguided. Talking about cis people just turning on the T.V. to see themselves “represented”… sorry but unless YOU are literally the actor you’re watching on T.V. you aren’t being represented by some random immutable characteristic.
The need to feel represented by other people just because you share an uncontrollable trait or skin color etc. is all EGO. I don’t think this is a healthy practice to want to normalize at all, this level of self-centeredness generally causes unhealthy suffering in life.
If you want to celebrate someone for something they’ve actually DONE based on the merit of some well thought out idea or moral choice, then fine. That’s deep, meaningful, and freely accessible to everyone. In fact that’s literally virtue, virtues make us better than our base animal starting points. Making sexuality and gender identity some focal point so you can feel warm and fuzzy inside really really oversimplifies humanity and it’s experience, there’s just not much to celebrate there. It’s also the basis of tribalism and bigotry when taken to extremes.
Sez you. I like being a decent and socially conscious individual, And not a sociopath like you. But I need to take a break from it now and then. Moral high ground is tiring. So I come to Azeroth to hack heads off with a sword and work off my frustrations.
I agree with them to a certain extent, its nice to see folks “on your team” when you are a kid. A gay character who isn’t a stereotype. Or a trans character not played for laughs, or played by a woman pantomiming a “hilarious” man walk. Or lesbians who actually get to live happily ever after. But I don’t need it to be the focus anymore than the straight people romances. And this is Azeroth. If you want to explore your sexuality, Goldshire (Or Silvermoon) are waiting for you. I’m here for adventure. If I wanted that I’d play Second Life.
To your first point, I have and will continue to do so. Thanks.
To your second, equality of opportunity is meaningless when people are still being discriminated against institutionally. A disabled person cannot do the same things an able-bodied person can, but that doesn’t mean their lives are any less valuable.
I don’t know how to tell you to care about other human beings. It seems empathy isn’t your strong suit.
Imagine if a minority religion that worshipped coconuts was “shocked” to hear about how you arnt liking their forced coconut religion programming being shuved in your face? It will only be for some types of people. But acting like it should be the norm is a little ridicoulous when the majority dont care about it and rather not be preached to.
People want things to feel natural and smooth, with some coconuts. Not COCONUTS COCONUTS COCONUTS COCONUTS!!!@
Imagine if you played a video game and every character was one race, one gender, one attitude, one in the same on most aspects. Would you like or hate that?
Trick question, the logical thinking majority of gamers dont care as long as the game play is good. That is the difference between some people and some others. Some want their representation forced so they can feel like they matter in existence while most do not need to feed that massive insecurity and just want a good story and game. If there happens to be more than one type of character , then that is fine too. But some people out there feel like they need represented for some reason… and this goes for ANY person wanting represented in ANY form.
