As a gay male, no we don’t…
In what way?
representation is fine, however shoehorning isn’t helpful in the least
Also why do people make it out like a gay character would just be out waving a rainbow flag around doing nothing else story driven? i mean we’ve seen maybe half the characters sexual preference at play? it’s not relevant to the story most times so why would it be brought up, unless that was literally their only character point
Shaw and Flynn were handled well in the book, and i look forward too seeing some of that in game, however the last thing i want is the above which seems to be what people are asking for, which is just such a hard NO
Both of these statements conflict with each other. Which is it? Are you trying to escape from people or not? The people asking for representation are the people who belong to these groups.
I’m not saying that the stories in World of Warcraft were created as an allusion to real world politics, but as I’ve kindly pointed out in other threads, no story is ever created in a vacuum. These conceits and motifs didn’t literally conjure out of thin air. They came from somewhere, and while they might not be as politically inflammatory as LGBTQ+ representation, they are political.
Again, Poetics by Aristotle.
Nobody is asking for this. You’re being baited by troll threads from people who are purposefully trying to get a rise out of you and everyone else.
You do have LGBT characters
The game is rated T for teen.
Blizzard is on a censor spree (Garrosh for example)
The game is about mindless violence, never thrown together romance.
Questing is a chore, I don’t read it I just want to know what to do so I can pvp, raid, and M+.
RP is an option for all no rules, imagination is your tool.
Blizzard will never allow any kind of sex scenes, there goal is about family level gaming, because people let there children play a game that was never ment for them.
You don’t NEED anything but what’s required for basic survival.
As a multi-racial ‘person of color’…
Everytime I see these threads I wonder why these folks feel the need to be ‘first in line’ ahead in “representation”.
I could legitimately ask for representation for more diversity in race - especially as it’s more ‘obvious’.
There’s really no lore reason anyone needs to know NPC sexual preferences. When I meet someone in RL, who they like to engage in intimate conduct with is not something I notice that easily.
But I can tell their race and ethnicity.
So if we need more ‘representation’ among the cast of ‘random NPCs in the crowd’ - it seems like that should first be pointed at obvious traits.
Unless we’re walking around trying to date all these NPCs or hear about their domestic life, their sexual practices are just something we’d never have a logical reason to discover.
All of that said…
Where are all the threads for “why Chicano/Black/Asian/Indigenous/Arab/etc representation in games matters”?
These kinds of topics DO show up in wider articles outside of a specific game, but we’re NOT flooding the forums here with them.
We’re aiming them industry wide so such things can be addressed where logical (ie: in a game like Cyberpunk I’d expect it, in a game like WoW I’d just expect ‘rando-colors’ to represent that fantasy world like we now have this expac).
So again… why is this group more special than ‘minorities’ that are ‘visible on sight’ and frankly attacked on site? Why is the topic of NPC sex habits even relevant in a game about murder-hobos?
Is this just a case of privilege from a set of people who are not a minority outside of their preference in genitalia?
It DOES matter in a game that represents the modern world, where for bizzare reasons people are attacked because of this preference. But even then only if that game is exploring issues of personal relationships.
But in a cartoon fantasy world - with most of these NPCs we don’t know their culture or conduct beyond “can you go kill 12 rats for me and collect their left-toenails to get this sword?”
I’ll be fully behind it if someone can explain to me why I need to know what kind of biology Chromie prefers to be romantic with? If they can even explain to me why Chromie needs to know…
Hey look another thread that was purposely made to make fun of & alienate the community.
Even since trans women decided cis women were “just jealous hags” for caring about their own rights instead of those of self-deluding, misogynist-stereotype-performing narcissists at every possible juncture… I’ve felt freed from their oppressive ideology. The mask is off.
…I just noticed some of my and a bunch of other comments (and i think sothe’s) have been deleted.
Countless LGBT threads about we want, we want, we want, WHAT ABOUT WHAT I WANT!?
You hit that nail right on the head! Thank you!
It really doesn’t.
It may not be important to you, but there are those of us who would like to see more of it.
Not sure why it’s needed. Not even sure why it’s even being asked for. I’ve seen people list “reasons” but they are invalid and unimportant. That and not sure how my sexuality or gender has any impact on a game, or why it needs to. I have my preferences, I don’t see how it should be represented in a video game…
I mean, is it people just trying to seek validation for who they are? That’s all I can think of. If so, hate to break it to you, but the only validation you should seek, is from yourself, not others.
Looks like comments are being deleted. Unfortunate.
The only thing spamming threads like this will accomplish is generate more animosity towards the alphabet.
Surprised no one has mentioned the ‘terf’ comments earlier in the thread. Usually only see that idiocy on Twitter.
Maybe it is different in the US, but in the UK that term was classified as derogatory word aimed at, primarily, gender critical women in a court of law.
Gender critical does not = hatred of trans people.
It indicates someone who does not believe in gender as an almost religious concept. They believe that gender is a social constuct, different in many cultures. I.e in Scotland skirts (kilts) for men are not frowned upon, whereas a man in a skirt in England would be. Gender says that women like glitter and makeup and men like beer and football. Gender critical people do not believe that it is healthy or innate to believe in these stereotypes.
They believe all trans people should have access to healthcare, work and have the same rights as everyone else has.
But they also want biological reality acknowledged in some situations. For example, in sports. Trans women retain their male skeletal structure, larger heart and lungs, increased muscle mass and twitch even after transition. They shouldn’t play in hard contact sports against women.
Also certain medical procedures need the correct sex to be put on a form, like a man, a trans woman would become very ill or die if they had a blood transfusion from a woman who had been pregnant.
In prisons, there is an obvious reason why someone with intact male anatomy should not be placed in the women’s prison.
That’s just a few examples, I just can’t stand the silly name slinging and assumption that gender critical people are evil.
Hey I don’t know about you and your wants but I know what I want from Blizz.
Glad to hear that it’s considered derogatory. It’s not here and in some places it’s openly used and even welcomed. Even questioning it gets you labeled. It’s honestly frightening.
