Why isn't "simming" still core part of the game?

I mean, diablo 3 shows your dps based on your gear. Why we should use external source

and wow is pretty much arpg at this point where dps number is only thing we chase with millions of item drops and super effects

That is a great question. That would make things more fun to be honest. You test a piece of Gear and your dps goes up, or it drops.

There are addons and external sources but I have never taken the time to learn how to use them properly. I really should try and find a really tutorial on one of them .

That stat in d3 is very inaccurate and nearly everyone uses the data from d3planner.com

shut up and download path of building noob. It will help you make the best spec you possibly can…wait wrong game forgive me.

simcraft already exist, they only need to use same algorithm or maybe even better version if they want to stay on this arpg path

Simcraft doesn’t work for healing and tanking specs.

Again what is shown in D3’s isn’t “simming”. Not even close. It’s more like item level.

They could sim your raw damage but they really couldn’t account for procs, buffs and other effects. It would still be nice to see added.

ya, they really should embrace it by now.
people pay irl money just to see if somethings a upgrade. if your not simming your not a " good " raider these days, its pretty sad.

I dont want this game to be any more like Diablo 3. Diablo 3 has infected wow enough.

Very much this.

The D3 stat is incredibly inaccurate and I really really don’t want WoW going the D3 route.

My HOTA Barb sheet says I do 1.6 Million DPS. However, out in the field I’m regularly hitting and critting for hundreds of Billions of damage every second.

Would rather them not waste Dev time on a DPS Calculator that is likely going to be just as inaccurate.

it’s pretty much impossible to know what is an upgrade anymore. 430 trinket from previous raid tier is better than anything in current mythic raid

you might know which azerite traits are bis, but what about combinations? How could you know your stat weights without addons? Why is 445 ring is better than 460 with socket? And stuff got worse with corruption, galaxy brain required.

but it will be, even more in shadowlands. It’s easier to make and easier to hook up people.

Too many variables… sims don’t even accurately cover this themselves.

  • AOE?
    • How many?
    • How much health?
    • How long do they live?
  • ST?
  • World questing?
  • What buffs do you have?
  • What other classes?
  • What talents are you using?

etc

etc

font and coral just… irritating.

There’s a simple one out there I use that really helped me.

Ask Mr Robot. It’s an addon and a website.

You ask the addon to give you a string of numbers that you paste into the website, and the website sims your gear.

Pretty easy stuff.

Edit: It also suggests Azerite traits, gems, enchants and talents based on your spec.

Exactly!

The people that are for “adding d3 like simming to wow” either have never done a sim with raidbots, AMR or if they have, they never paid attention to how long it takes or ever asked themselves “how does this work?”

Do we really want WoW to waste cpu cycles on 10,000 simulated raid fights every time we get new gear? Good lord it would drag the performance of the game into the gutter.

I assume they don’t want to take up the processing time, but it could work in the background. Simming is a real pain these days. Plus with so many pieces with random corruption in our inventories, the SIM can take a long time or not be possible unless we make an account on the SIM site. I really don’t like simming. Plus, even Changing your rotation based on corruption is possible. There are so many variables these days.

Maybe blizzard owns those sites that sell premium memberships to players intent on doing whatever it takes.

Raidbots can actually handle those type of sims, you just have to add in some custom APL option lines at the bottom.

Item’s dont have a sim value in a vacuum. It all depends on other items you have.

Diablo does not sim though…It’s like an approximate of what your weapon dps would be in WoW. Which doesn’t convey much information as to what your actual dps in a given environment would be.

Sims like they do in SimCraft and Raidbots are CPU hogs. In fact they would have to install a bunch of new servers to power that kind of simming for the entire population. Raidbots is paying for a large amount of processing power to run the sims it does now…you let every person start running sims like that and you’ll need a new building full of servers to power it.

Plus, the sims we run are derived from people figuring out the best rotations and then writing an action-priority-list (refereed to as the APL) that tells the sim what to do with that character. If you have ever tried asking a Blizzard GM a question about how something works in this game you would have observed them telling you they cannot help you and given you a link to wowhead or some 3rd party site. They will not tell people how stuff works, its like their shtick. An in game sim that they create, in order for it to be accurate, would basically force them to tell us the ideal way to play the spec and that would just go against the established norms.
