I am using an arcanite reaper and tonight won an obsidian edged blade.
Despite the blade having more top end and more attack power, I lose 19 top end when I equip the blade…
What is going on???
Edit: Also when I take off battleshout I end up losing 11 top end*… why is it different?
Orc = axe skill
noone knows your hit rating or your gear. You are orc, so you already have a bonus on axes and ofc rng can always be a downer too.
I doubt anyone will have the correct answer here and its all just guesswork.
Id prolly delete the char and reroll, just to make sure its no bug
Weapon skill doesn’t affect top end I thought… Also the sword has more +skill than my racial…
could be the speed of the weapon
I didn’t realize speed of weapon affects top end… the Obsidian is faster though.
Bingo weapon speed is the reason.
Lets say your total attack power increases your DPS by 40.
40 DPS to a 3.4 speed weapon is 136 damage per swing
40 DPS to a 3.8 speed weapon is 152 damage per swing
Please note that this will mostly affect white hits as skills like Mortal Strike are normalized to 3.6 speed which means Obsidian will hit harder.
OK THIS is what I needed to see… so would you say Obsidian is better for pvp?
someone did a test back in the vanilla day, it’s almost comparable with either weapon. But the sword is slightly better when the extra swing procs, but not by much because of 5% crit on axe.
As orc? No. Swords is generally not better if you are low geared. You just need the crit for that rage proc. If sword spec procs its great, but its still not as good as axe with low gear. Specially as orc.
What is “low” gear though? I have a mix of epics and pre-bis blues
Weapons are mostly comparable, slower speed weapon is better for anything trying to kite you due to swing timer resets. The extra 13 stam and Orc racial are a bonus with the axe.
The most important answer is that you’ll probably throw them both out for Unstoppable Force after BGs come out lolz.
Everything below r13 or AQ 40 for wars is pretty “low”. R10 might pull of sword spec with bre, but id not recommend reaper over obsidian edge unless you can stack up crits somehow.
Edit: I might clarify: I am strictly talking about PvP and when you are alone. If you have a healer in your back swords can be fine/good just as axe. If you are alone in the world (even in PvE solo) id still recommend axe.
You just do not have the base stats to pull off swords imho.
I was so excited to get an upgrade finally after using reaper for soooo long… and when I look at the OEB numbers it is really disappointing.
Sucks man, the first real upgrade to reaper you can get in MC is prolly BRE. Id keep the reaper if I was you. Obsidian is fine, but its not top tier or nowhere near it either.
And to make matters worse I won it off someone who was a fresh 60 with no reaper… ugh I feel sick
If you build it around sword, you can do some good dps with it im sure. Hoj and stack on crits, it can be fun in pvp if you wanna get smth fresh. Id still not trade reaper for it personally
