What is the point of the wrist slot (From a game design perspective)? In terms of visual appearance / transmog, it is pointless as it is completely covered and hidden by the gloves and chest piece. As for functionality, all it does is add some stats, and can occasionally be part of a set.
A wrist piece is probably the most boring thing you can loot in a raid, apart from perhaps a neck piece (Which at least gives jewelcrafters an extra slot to craft for, as opposed to blacksmiths, leatherworkers, and tailors, who can already craft for at least 7 other slots each).

While we’re talking about this … I have 8 fingers, not 2! ;/

Well for one there’s still the stat boosts which come in handy, and for another there are some of us who don’t wear (visible) chest and/or hand pieces. Having bracelets works better for us.

This argument kinda went out the window when they added more hide-able slots. About half the getups I use nowadays forgo using chunky gloves in favor of near-bare arms, with the bracers keeping them from looking too bare.
So with that in mind, I’d say wrist items are more useful now than they ever were.

Bracers are pretty relevant in combat. They protect you from being injured by your own bow or preventing your hands from being chopped off at the wrists.
They’re probably less practical for casters. But then again, so are pants.

Enhance the glove slot and remove the wrist slot altogether?

But it can get drafty under my robe without pants!
ah, looks like someone doesnt know the xmog value of wrist options with short gloves. you will learn grasshopper
(seriously though, if you can’t come up with a good glove option, try making your own with a short glove plus wrist. you can make some really cool combos!)

Honestly, only time i find bracers even useful for transmog is when i make a bare chested warrior and want some gold bracers to add some pizaz to the look or when i use the brawler guild gloves and need the bracers of the set to make them not stand out too much
If you think about it, what are the point of useless stat sticks in many of the slots? How is that fun and interesting? It doesn’t make gameplay more exciting really. I guess this is why Dev’s have experimented with corrupted gear, azerite powers, and more.
To give players more choices
That argument went out the window when they added gear that shows bracers lol
You mean like yoga pants? That’s so 2001! ohmergawd!
Yep, new in 10.0! Accessory apparel!
Scarfs, neckties, yoga pants, fanny packs, and crocs
What about leg warmers ala Flashback?
Oh dear gawd I just showed my age. Shoot me now, just shoot me.
I wonder if we could also wear the ring as a medallion? Or if a tauren ring could be used as a necklace for a gnome?

In fact, there are quite a few mog sets and chest pieces with arms and gloves too short to cover the wrist area, so the wrist actually completes the set. Bizarre design, but it’s a thing.
