Why is WoW only 450 MB to download now

I just resubscribed and began reinstalling WoW only to see that my install size was only 450 MB. Any reason why this may be?

That may just be the launcher downloading.

The actual game is north of 60 gigs, I think? SL required 100.

Maybe that was just an update to allow you to download the updates for the WoW update downloader.

They ported it to the Build engine. It’s been a remarkable adjustment.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS

For the full WoW experience, try using a computer with the following recommended requirements:

Operating System – Windows 10 64-bit
CPU – Intel Core i7-4770 or AMD FX-8310 or better
GPU – NVIDIA GeForce GTX960 4GB or AMD Radeon R9 280 or better
Memory – 8GB RAM
Storage – 70 GB available space on SSD
Internet – Broadband internet connection
Input – Multi-button mouse with scroll wheel
Resolution – 1024 ×768 minimum display resolution

I’m playing the game right now with a 450 MB install. I’m not entirely sure how this is working but it is. I’ve tried to see if I have the game installed elsewhere but I’m not seeing it anywhere.

These compression algorithms are getting out of hand!

You have the essential files installed, it’s streaming the rest and will fully download after you exit.

Look at your WoW directory.

Go to

C:/Program File (x86)

Right Click the World of Warcraft folder then click Properties

You would see the size in GB.

My Wow folder shows 77gigs. I’d say you either have the folder hiding somewhere or what you downloaded was just the installer thing.
I know when I reinstalled a few moths ago there was a small file that after I signed in and launched downloaded a series of larger files.

my wow folder is 113 gigs
the retail folder is 322 meg
the data folder is 113 gigs

I have retail, TBC, classic era, and PTR installed and my data folder is only 76.5 gigs.

not sure why mine is so big I have 113 data files @.99 gig each.

Retail will only be around 300-400MB if you already have TBC/Classic/PTR installed. The clients share a ton of data now, in the shared Data folder, so you don’t have to redownload the entire game again if you already have one of those other clients.

You need to download the base before they start downloading all the rest. It is a long process depending on your connection speeds.

The WOW _retail_ directory will be fairly small. Since it shares data with Classic, the Data directory has all the assets and databases… The _retail_ directory only contains an executable and some account specific information.

If you install Classic or PTR, you will gain _classic_ and/or _ptr_ directories. They will also use the same Data directory.

Finally, WOW features a Just In Time downloader built into the game. If you are playing, and a resource isn’t available, the game will download and make it available without having to quit.

Because its going mobile silly.

At this point fresh installs should direct to the “64bit” program file folder. Not like it matters in the end.

If you have the ptr or any other version of wow installed it pulls what it can from that client and just downloads what it needs to complete it.
