when so many hordes said they were going to turn off warmode?
Are people just saying “turning off war mode” the same way they say they’re gonna cancel subs? i would’ve expected the warmode bonus to remain the same or go down to 10% for alliance side given the horde attitude but hey here we are at 20% again
it hasn’t been 30% for literal months now, if i recall the last time it was still 30% was in january. In the past few months it’s been mostly 15% with i think one or two weeks of 20%, But that’s completely not even the point.
The point is how come it went from 15% to 20% when horde players were threatening to turn off warmode even as recently as last week because extra 5% is too unfair
should be heading to 10% as the factions balance in warmode right?
Because the overwhelming majority of players don’t use the forums, or twitter, or bother whining about the game outside of the game itself. Too many horde characters leave WM on and never actually participate in wpvp. Blizzard openly admits that is the reason for the disparity.
well the Warmode bonus cap is 30% so who knows how over the cap the Horde were. Assume the Horde originally had enough players with WM on to have the alliance maintain a… 40% or 45% buff but since the reward was capped at 30% that extra 15% was not displayed. Considering now that the alliance buff fluctuates between 15-20% you can imagine a significant portion of players turned off WM horde side.
Now consider the Horde total population has not been given a reason to xfer to Alliance that means there is a large number of people who used to have WM on Horde side who have decided to turn it off.
now Blizz could have buffed Ally racials to such an extreme where people not only feel they should xfer but are willing to open there wallets to do so, This probably would have put WM pop in a better place as Horde would not have been coerced into turning WM off meanwhile overnight a bunch of ally characters show up who have WM on.
Although we know the real issue was the sharding “fix” in december which actively tries to put more alliance per shard than Horde to create the worst type of balance were Alliance seemingly outnumber Horde while also having all the benefits of technically being outnumbered. And whenever Horde form a raid they are sharded away so they cant ever attack the alliance at equal numbers.
I’m not going to bother digging through all the dumb things that Ion has said over the past years, but recently, whether it was twitter, forums, or a q&a video, I don’t recall, he said they were manipulating the bonus to bribe the alliance in an attempt to try to convince horde players with no interest in pvp to turn it off once they were overwhelmed. It doesn’t work, because people don’t do WQ’s all the time like we did at launch.
Read more then. He says very plainly that the intent of subsidizing the alliance’s poor turnout was not to reach horde numbers, but to convince horde players with no interest in pvp to turn off war mode.
You’re the one insisting that he’s said it. In fact, I’m sure you are the only one insisting that Ion or any Blizz employee has said anything like that, ever.
Right now you are coming across as a guy whose tinfoil hat is on too tight. I challenge you or anyone here to dig up where anyone from Blizzard has actually publicly said/tweated/posted/whatever these words:
“Too many horde characters leave WM on and never actually participate in wpvp.”
Otherwise, think critically and demand evidence. And a statement like yours begs challenging. You insist that they said it, supply the evidence.
Ion said that there were Horde in war mode for the extra 10% that didn’t actually want to PVP, and that that was the reason for AOO, to get those Horde to leave war mode.
Most of them are gone now due to the first couple months of AOO, but the creep back up from 15% to 20% is undoubtedly due to some of them turning war mode back on now.
It was the first Dev Q&A after the AOO bonus went to 400ilevel gear. It only was that ilevel for one week, and Ion addressed it in the next Q&A. That should make it easy enough to look up. I’d do it but I’m about to head to work.
And yes, he did say that was one of the reasons for the bonus.
Yes, Ion said that back in January. He also clearly indicated that horde “wm freeloaders” (wm on only for the free 10%) were not the main issue. Alliance non-participation in WPVP was the main issue and discouraging horde “wm freeloaders” was a secondary issue. And he felt like AOO was working well at doing both.
Again, he said that in January. Now 2.5 months later to keep claiming that horde “wm freeloaders” are significant problem with faction balance… its a stretch. It wasn’t a big part of the problem back then and while inexplicably Alliance keeps getting the AOO, it feels like more alliance are doing wpvp now.
Personally, I believe the real issue is that AOO doesn’t encourage week long wpvp participation. I personally know 5+ alliance players who only turn warmode on just to do the 25 and then turn it off again. Getting 25 kills is easy. Pick the right time and place (cough turtle , coughcough azerite) and you can get that in 20 minutes.
Make AOO a 15-kill daily or a conquest-like weekly reward that you can earn or what was suggested in another thread create towns like Halaa in BC which factions fight over and provide zone buffs for both WM ON and OFF characters… You might get more consistent participation each day.
