Are you talking about the armor he got from Doomhammer that he has worn since WC3? He also has more Frostwolf decoration.
I guess if I squint really hard that alliance blue becomes black.

That’s because modern WoW for some reason makes black into gray.
Older WoW was better at showing black.

It’s blue because that’s the heraldic color of the Frostwolves, his ancestral clan.
It’s gold because when a guy like Doomhammer gives you his golden armor, you keep it gold.
