games like dota 2 have spectator mode where people can just watch albeit its a little bit delayed but thats fine.
Why does WoW not have this?

ive been asking for spectator mode since vanilla. sitting on the bench is boring when you cant watch. i suspect it has more to do with being able to raid lead from outside the dungeon like max does for liquid. only from a complete 3rd person perspective instead of a streamed view.
I mean people are still doing it with or without blizzard, im just wondering why cant blizzard have that? even dota 2 has it LOL
im assuming the dota 2 one is like LoL’s version and has a delay of a few minutes? Sorry just a question lol. I supposed they could add a similar thing to Wow though.
Yeah… I was thinking about this a lot when I was playing with some new friends. WoW is a complicated game if you’re just jumping in a spectator mode could be a great way to walk people through in game, without them having to look up resources on their own.
Can we throw fruit?
The demand just isnt there I assume. MOBAs have a huge desire to watch other games but nobody really wants to watch a random group pug halls 12. Also discord/twitch streams already fill in for those that do want to watch. There’s just no reason for blizz to step in and develop it at this time
I think it’s called Twitch if you want to watch others play a game.
A lot of guilds use Discord for Raid communications and Discord allows players to stream content like raids .
Check your guilds discord if your guild is running a raid and see if anyone is streaming it also say you are not in a guild but you have Discord and someone who’s channel you are apart of is running a raid see if anyone there is streaming it and watch .
I forget which expansion after Wrath was going to have spectator mode and was even touted by Blizzard, before it was abandoned., but the idea has floated around.
Yeah… I mean that’s an option but why not open up runs to actual spectators. You know, like how they do it in Arenas. Can have a few tag alongs to watch mechanics, listen to instruction, actually see what stuff looks like.
It’s all fine watching a stream but hands on is almost always better. Spectating would allow for that hands on without the anxiety, judgement, or wipe potential that normally exists with guiding new players, or players unfamiliar with current content.
Edit: Eye of Kilrogg Intensifies
I think its called Twitch
How would there be any hands on if you are a spectator ?
Hands on would mean actually participating in the raid .
Spectator by definition means one who watches .
Streaming of the raids allows the spectators to hear what is going on and see how the raid leader is instructing their raid group in regards to mechanics and such .
Watching a stream of a raid comes with no judgement if one is just a spectator watching it .
If you want to run then you are no longer a spectator but a participant. If you want to get in and learn the fights sign up for your guild raids , find lfg groups that will take you and if you are new look for learning groups and develop a relationship with them and learn together.
You didn’t pay any attention to where I said “like in Arenas” did you? Or are you unfamiliar with that function?
Not familiar with how arenas work I only do random BGs and how do you participate in arenas as a spectator when once again spectator means one that watches only .
This is probably the real reason at the end of the day. Why would Blizz spend developer time, and therefore money, on adding in a feature that 3rd parties are already taking care of at no cost to them?
When in doubt about why large company is doing, or not doing, something 99.99% of the time it comes down to money.
Several of my guild members live stream in Discord. I’ve watched some of the Heroic fights this way. Interesting to hear the commentary as they do different roles in PUG groups.
Edit to amplify this from the previous poster…
Preach it brother!
It’s all about the money now… lol
It’s called Twitch.
You can walk around the arena, after you’ve been defeated, to observe how the others are doing. Don’t know why you’re so aggressive about not really understanding a simple concept. It’s one thing to watch someone play, it’s another to be able to move a camera around on your own.
It’s only available in LFR, just die to the boss, watch and collect loot.
