Why is there even a quest log limit

What was the reason for limiting it at 20 and then 25 in later expansions?

Why does it matter if I gave all the hillbrad quests in my log when i go to quest in shimmering flats and want to grab all the quests there (but can’t without dropping a bunch from hillsbrad)

Only logical or insightful answers please. Any gatekeepers/trolls who say “because that’s how it was” or “accept it how it is” will be ignored <3

Thanks in advance!

I agree. I could imagine these limits being imposed by technical reasons in the past but not now almost two decades past the initial launch. Technology evolved and databases now can perform orders of magnitude faster.

Because people like me would exploit the absolute crap out of it, going into P4 with 200 quests completed after running dungeons 40-50. That’s the one reason I came up with immediately after seeing this. Now if they prevented you from having more than 20 actually (completed) quests in your log I do not see the problem unless its just an old design limitation.

Yea I was wondering if it was 2014 tech/engine/pc limits as opposed to quest design.

@Klevius

Hmmm I see your point relating to SOD but lets not forget this is a classic implementation and there was a reason or at least it was designed like this long before SOD Phasing.

So although I see where you are coming from for p4 I am going to rephrase my question to ask why it was designed like that in the base game in 2014. (And yes I would agree to let us have unlimited quests in our log, but limit the completed ones for p4) But I also wonder how many quests there are at level 50 that are green and up that would return exp. Also doing level 56+ quests at level 50 would be very very difficult .

The original limit was 10, before it was changed in late Vanilla/BC That was horrible 10 quest limit, couldn’t even pick up all the quests in one zone at a time sometimes.

My guess originally it was to keep character data from bloating the database . Same reason they limited you to 10 characters per server, 50 max per account.

Nowadays I don’t think that is as much of a problem with or much larger HD and more then likely updated DB tech, howeveer I do think a limit on number of quests does serve a good purpose. It forces the player to be organized, not keep quests they are never going to do around.

I would be opposed to it being increased, simply to prevent people from stacking like 100 quests to turn in at phase start the same reason Blizzard doesn’t want wastewater pouches/troll tusks/etc… to be a source of levels.

Ok I can understand the stacking quests for the next phase but other then that there should be absolutely no reason for a limit anymore

You ever hear of the WoW backpack story?

Yeah, there might be reasons it can’t be changed in classic without a huge code overhaul.

I mean it was only in Dec of 2022 that the cap was raised to 35 quests.

Limit should be 1 quest, what kind of knight lets themselves get distracted by another quest when they’re already on a quest???

If your character has a very high intelligence stat, maybe they should be allowed to juggle two or three quests at once.

truuuue!

I’m sensing a new game mode tbh. The ‘One Ring’ game mode.
