Why is there a timelimit on the catalyst?

Tier has become something specs are balanced around so why is the conversion process restrictive?

It can’t be for progression anymore as guilds like method bypass the time limit with split runs. Is it just a hold out from earlier times that just hasn’t been revisited?

It’s called “bad luck protection”.

If you could just turn any piece of gear into tier at any time then why even have tier pieces drop at all?

Because they add a clear way to change up each season from the other. They serve a function I just think it doesn’t make sense to have it be restricted.

A difference I note is that I can’t have my 4 set PVP gear without a PVP vault. I have to wait this Tuesday to unlock my 4 set in PVP gear. So PVP Players who want to use Tier, either use a PVE piece, or save Catalyst charge on PVP gear.

I understand the limit is there to prevent from changing every piece of gear we get to Tier(remember, even cloak/bracers can be changed in the Catalyst for a “tier” version, that could be used to re-roll stats on high-ilvl gear), but I thought it was once a week.

In the same boat on my pvp toon and 4pc is fairly big.

Catalyst is not restrictive. In fact, it is completely open and free to all of your characters. Even alts that you have not played are accumulating charges.

It is however time-gated. But, one tier piece every 2 weeks is more than sufficient when paired with other sources (KSM, AOTC, PVP, LFR, great vault, etc).

PvP doesn’t award tier sadly. That said it seems…pointless to time lock it. If I need tier for my class to function why do I need a timer on it or replacing upgrades for it?

So that everyone doesn’t get 4set on literally day 1 without ever having a reason to raid. I’m down to discuss whether 2 weeks is needed or if one is fine, but if we give infinite charges out the gate, why even have non-tier drops from anything above normal dungeons?

Every world first raider does…so whats the point…?

Its just a casual time gate. You can brute force pass it via no lifing.

PVP does reward you with 1 tier piece of your choice if you hit 1600 rating. I was referring to that.

And then, you have 2 charges from catalyst plus another 1 tomorrow. So, that’s 4 pieces right there.

I mean, we could just go back to not having a catalyst at all.

The ones who run split raids? Sure, I guess. That’s hardly a glowing endorsement though

Right but it does show that the time limit is a pointless restriction already gotten past by hardcore players… it just exists to hinder the average player.

It doesn’t show that at all, though. It shows that in raids, tier pieces can drop. Nobody is getting around the catalyst charge timer.

Do you know why the catalyst was added?

It exists to give you free tier for sitting in dorn if that’s what you choose to do. You have the classic way of obtaining it like it has been for 20 years, now you just get it free on the drip. No one left behind

It was added to…time…gate…casuals…as opposed to just not having a catalyst?

Hardcore players make up a very small percentage of the player base. You cannot make a system thinking that it is going to fit 100% of the player base.

Honestly not really. It seems to be because tier is now how classes are balanced to every one needs it so I get how everyone has to be able to access it.

The time limit makes no sense to me as the people it affects most just bypass it.

Right but I can point out how a system designed to slow them that doesn’t shouldn’t hinder the rest of the playerbase.

That explains a lot.

The catalyst acts as bad luck protection by guaranteeing tier pieces. The prior iteration of this system was tier sets only available as random drops with no method to turn non-tier drops into tier drops.

You should stop making threads complaining about things you don’t understand.

The catalyst never has nor was intended to slow down someone obtaining their tier set. It quite literally does the opposute of that.
