Why is there a limit per instances an hour?

I used to run them all day long in vanilla and there was no cap per hour till later. This is bs and needs to be fixed!

Afaik it was 5 per hour in 1.12. Not sure if it was like that for the entirety of Vanilla but it was there in the version Blizz is modeling Classic off of.

There was a cap in vanilla.

I remember there was a cap…

And it’s to stop people exploiting instances for gold.

Wow developers didn’t like gold farms that were not out in open world.

Also it put to much strain on the instance servers having people spawn so many dungeons up.

There was an instance limit in vanilla. It prevented my druid/rogue from reset/stealth farm rare spawn bosses in dungeons.

Just found this on WoWWiki

So its very possible you’re remembering doing that before 1.9

Count Limitations

As of Patch 1.9 or so, players are limited to entering 5 instances per hour. Meaning that if you start your first run at 1:00pm, and do 4 more runs within an hour, you will not be able to enter any more instances until it is 2:00pm.

Example:

  • 1:00 : Instance 1 entered
  • 1:10 : Instance 2 entered
  • 1:20 : Instance 3 entered
  • 1:30 : Instance 4 entered
  • 1:40 : Instance 5 entered
  • 1:50 : Instance 6 Unable to enter. You will simply walk through the portal without entering the instance.
  • 2:00 : Instance 6 entered

Note: The number of instances you can enter is linked to your other characters on the same account as well. This means that if you have reached the entering limit on character A, character B will not be able to enter any instance.

Exactly what I remember too! So fix it blizzard!

I honestly wish they would reduce the limit to 2 per hour.

Yeah, so pretty much because we are getting the 1.12 version of the game they skipped the part where we can easily destroy the market by farming too fast.

It might not even be that reason really, I wouldn’t mind being able to do more Princess runs in Maraudon for more $$, I finish my 5 then log onto my bank alt for like 20 min or more before I can head back into Mara.

It’s 5 per hour, so it was very possible in Vanilla to run the same dungeon all day and never hit the limit. Let’s say you do 5 runs and they take ONLY 10 minutes each. That leaves you 10 minutes to go back to town, vendor trash, and get back to the dungeon.

Totally reasonable.

Given that instances typically take quite a while, I always assumed it was to prevent farming the trash for drops. That way they don’t have to care what monsters drop what from what loot table within the instance, it can just be all monsters in that instance.

If they want to limit the runs like 1.9, then they need to put all the content in like 1.9. They can’t pick and choose as they want to get the true experience of 1.12. I should be able to go farm trash in stocks for wool cloth without getting instance locked!

Anything to limit the spell cleave glee. They’re farming gold, exp and rare items just for being a golden boy class. Some people love them, but to those of us who find them horrifically boring it’s lame.

sure they can. the instance limit was done because it was being exploited —>

Not sure you’re understanding, they changed it from no limit to limited to 5 per hour in 1.9, so in 1.12 it was 5 per hour.

1.9 is later than 1.12

1.12 is well after, its not one point one two, its one point twelve.

Edit: the way they counted their patches was weird.
