Why is the Unborn Val'kyr so Popular?

Just curious as I see numerous people camping the spawns (which is fine), yet it seems to be VERY ineffective at pet battles when it comes to the new zones. Or maybe I’m using it wrong? Now, Ikky on the other hand, rocks the house along with my Sentinel’s Companion. Why does the Unborn Val’kyr seem so popular when its attacks are so weak in the new zones?

I use it on like 90% of the fights as the first pet.
You do realize it’s a sac pet right?

It’s my first as well. But what is a sac pet?

She sacrifices herself to debuff and do later damage

It’s a fantastic pet to start with.
Its a sacrafice pet in that your opener should be two (delayed hit) and three (sacrafice for 25% increased damage)

Then bring Ikky out who will do a ton more damage now.

It’s so they can farm the rep from battling pets in Nazjator, which gives about 3K. This is one of the pets needed to do that.

She’s very useful in fighting the legendary pets on Nazjatar and Mechagon, which give bonus rep. Plus she’s just a cool pet in her own right and not always easy to get.

It is good on the legendary pets in the new zones in particular.

You apply the dot, then have the pet die and that applies increased damage. You then add in Ikky with flock and you have several increase damage dots on the pet you are battling.

Legendary pets take only 50% damage so this is a very effective combo.

I do feel bad for folks if they are heavily camping this pet now because it has a tricky spawn.

The doom/haunt/ascension abilities are very useful and at one time it was the only pet with haunt to it is often the default in strategy guides. I have used it a couple of times, but most modern boss fights seem to require a black claw/swarm combo.

Curse of Doom, Unholy Ascension. Combo with a pet that inflicts Shattered Defenses with Black Claw or the like and you’ve won basically every pet battle.

i was trying to do the pet battles but then i found a boss pet that healed itself to full every few turns :frowning: so i said FORGET YOU and gave up on it.

That’s actually how my pets are now. Val’kyr, then Ikky, then Sentinel. I win here and there, but the Val’kyr seems so weak compared to the other two.

How are you running them?
An easy combo that works great is:

Val’kyr: 2 (delay), 3 (sac)
Ikky: 2 (black claw), 3 (flocok)
~if necessary~
Twilight clutch sister: 3 (twilight meteor)

About 75% of the boss fights can be killed in this combo

That might be my problem. Wrong moves. I’ll keep this in mind for my next pet battle. Thank you!

It was pretty awesome when it initially released. I think it was the only pet with Haunt at the time. The newer pets to come out since then have started outperforming it. Still looks pretty cool, though.

Unborn Val’kyr using doom and unholy ascension then Ikky using black claw and flock and then haveing a 3rd pet will win 95% of all single legendary pet battles alone.

Thats why its so good.

the valkyr is the real mvp actually

25% increased damage is insane for all 1 shot pet battle fights

i use val’kyr and double ikkys

Val’kyr isn’t in your rotation to direct damage. It is there is sacrifice itself and make the other pets do more damage.

If you can get that curse of doom to go off in conjunction with shattered defenses that is a ton of damage
