Seriously,
I’ve been farming two hours and seen one fragment. All other keys done.
This stupid! The drop rate needs a Buff! Why put the gorgeous mount in the game and lock it behind a terrible, mind numbing grind.
This patch sucks.

I never saw one Tuesday or Wednesday in the time I had to play. Farmed for 2hr 37min today and still haven’t seen one drop. I’d like to smack whoever sets these kinds of drop rates for stuff in this game. It’s not like we’re trying to farm up the original Ashbringer here… No sense in it being this annoying to try and get something
Do it in a group. Took about 2 hours
I’ll give it a shot, I’ve been doing it Solo.
BTW, for anyone needing the one from the shipwreck rare, fish for it behind where he spawns. I used a Pandaren fishing raft and a giant Bobber and fished in the Cyclone. I had it in less than 50 casts.
You don’t have to do it like I did. You can fish from the beach and still get it easily. Cheers!
Yep, fishing is a must on that one. You can still kill the rare for it but fish in between so you are getting more chances
Took me to 75 skill from zero
you answered your own question, its a good looking mount, so blizzard makes it annoying to get on purpose
I’d honestly rather have Alunira. The last two freakin’ shards area avoiding me like the plague too. Several thousand mobs killed since the last one dropped.
Me and wow rng just don’t get along on this kind of thing. It tends to string along until it turns into more of a relief that it’s over rather than a joy of acquiring said thing.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to join a group for this. I mean I know HOW in terms of like. In the UI. And click on groups.
Never get invited.
But at least the ones I start also never get anyone interested in joining! wait
The patch came out two days ago.
Indeed! I think what is frustrating for folks though is
a) torrential fragments only drop in the storm and we don’t otherwise have many reasons to hang out in the storm
b)every other Runekey is substantially easier so you might get all the others on day 1 then be left waiting weeks or months on this last one.
This would be a valid point if the torrential fragments were tied to some kind of weekly boost on your first fragment of the week or something.
This type of fragment, however, appears to just be tied into a mindless mob grinding. The number of mobs that will be killed when doing weeklies is a tiny fraction of the number of mobs you’ll kill while joining a group and grinding mobs for hours. And when killing mobs for hours, players are experiencing ridiculously low drop rates.
This shouldn’t be defended.
This is a pretty tame farm for a cool reward and has absolutely no timegating so you can get it all in a day if you really want it.
There’s little to complain about. If you want some of the easy mounts they’re on the vendor.
The crappy drop rate is the only timegate. It could be done in a few hours, maybe a day if you’re lucky… or in my case be 4+ hours into farming for a drop and never see one. Even if one frag dropped in the next 30 min of farming, the average time based on that luck is 31.5 hours of straight mob grinding for a drop. That’s crazy lol
I ground out the rune fragments for the mount, and I wont even use it. I would much rather have Alunira as well. I haven’t gotten a shard in about 6 hours combined farming at bees and wolves. I fear I am losing myself.
I usually see the phrase timegate used more to describe pure timers on content being available (like Khadgar having that bar above his head saying to come to him in X days).
I actually don’t mind timegates that much. Makes sense that they need to pace out content, though with some things it can be a bad idea (like the gem availability for the new ring, which they’re hotfixing today to remove the timegate).
Really bad drop rates though are different. Sometimes they’re defensible, but often they just speak poorly of the small group among the developers responsible for setting the numbers.
grinding like this is miserable and not fun, I don’t know what Blizzard is thinking or why this is still a thing. There are better things to do and other games to play. This grind grind grind nonsense makes me want to play WoW less and less.
Ya in a group it took me about an hour.
This is such a dumb farm, not only do they have a low drop rate but joining a group seems like a great idea at first until you realize mob tag caps exist.
For the Cyclonic Rune, the fastest method is to Fish in the ocean in the spawn area next to Zekul the Shipbreaker. I fished up the Cyclonic Rune after about 40 or so casts (with lvl 300 fishing ability).
Zekul also drops the Cyclonic Rune, so when he spawns you may want to fight him - but the drop rate from Zek is low.
The Zekul fight also has a very small chance to drop a Torrential Rune fragment - but a different area is better for farming Torr. frags.
For the Torrential Rune fragments, join a group (there are usually many “Torr Frag” groups in group-finder). Then, fight the mobs (which spawn very, very quickly - no waiting at all) in the northern area of the Isle. The target area is located in the vicinity of the entrance to the cave which holds the Singing Tablet (portal).
It took me about 3 hours of Torr. frag farming, with the group, to get all 7 frags.
Remember, you must go into the Storm phase to collect the Cyclonic Rune and to collect the Torrential Rune fragments.
If it’s not raining, you are not going to get any of these.
Good luck all.
Which day though? There’s speculation that the droprate on fragments has already been nerfed by Thursday.
