Seriously why is the ignore cap so low?
If Blizzard isn’t going to do anything to stop sellers/boosters from spamming chat in cities, why do they limit our ability to remove these blights from spamming chat with endless alts.
Edit:
Additionally as others have pointed out the problem could be solved by Blizzard implementing customizable chat filters like addons can do.

Instead of ignore list turn chat off in options. Uncheck trade chat.
Burning the in game chat outside guilds shouldn’t be the only option.

True. But have you tried addons? I think there is some addons you can try to block spammers.

You wouldn’t need an addon if there was just the simple solution of having a far higher cap for ignoring spam alts.

Why do you need trade chat though? Oh you’re upset your political discussions and memeing are being pushed off? Carry on.

Even if they raised it to 1 million it will fill up in a month if your just sitting there click ignore all day.
The better suggestion is a report and block while still having space in ignore.
because you cant play an MMMMORPG by yourself
Took about a week to fill my current one so a decent cap would last a while, plus if addons can figure this out blizzard should be able to.
Yeah but the endless alts people make to spam chat is endless. You need a endless ignore to ignore endless alts.
The need a way when you hit report spam that you never see a message from then again while keeping your ignore list empty for jerks and not so nice people.
Sure but in the meantime…
Also, you don’t use addons to ignore you use addons to filter. Filtering is vastly superior because say fred says
Fred: Suck a coconut
Now you could ignore Fred
but now here’s Mike
Mike: Suck a coconut
now you have to ignore Mike too
If you just filter out the message
“Suck a coconut”
Then you’ll never see it again no matter who says it. That’s what addons like BadBoy+BadBoy_CCleaner and GlobalIgnoreList do
Blizz provided the API for people to make the addons, that’s them figuring it out
And if everyone says “Suck a Coconut.” Your ignore list isn’t big enough.
With that addon you can block the “Suck a Coconut.”. However the spammers get away and come up with another spam to use.
Your welcome

If you ignore one player’s character, then you’re essentially ignoring all of their characters on their account. The stipulation is, of course, that it’s just for the character that you’re playing on (and have them ignored on). This also doesn’t work if they delete all their characters and remake them; that’ll delete them off your ignore list and they’ll be able to pester you freely once again. (I know someone who does this to stalk people quite often, unfortunately.)
Which is why they need a account ignore option or a addon. To block the entire account. They would need to make new accounts and emails and passwords to spam you again.

Doesn’t this only block off the additionally ignored players from the chat box, but not from your screen? Like, for example, you’d still be able to receive mail and see their on-screen say/yell/party chat boxes (if you’re within close enough proximity).
Well you could, until they made multiboxing dumb. Thankfully they did, tho!
If you have that much of an issue with someone Then time to put in a ticket for harassment
I use an addon called EasyFilter It’s more complicated to use than the 2 I mentioned because it works based on pattern matching.
This blocks all guild messages
"%[guild.+%]"
This blocks anything where someone says ‘wts’ and any amount of text inbetween it then ‘full clear’
wts.+full%s-clear
This blocks any message with ‘wts’ and then any amount of words ‘loot’ any amount of words ‘tradeable’
wts.+loot.+tradeable
