Like… seriously almost every single polearm from the last two expansions has the hand hold point RIGHT under the spear/dangerous end something like 3/4ths of the way up the weapon. Polearms are supposed to take advantage of their length, honestly maces and axes have a similar problem, but it’s even more pronounced on the polearms because it affects their sheathing on the back where the point is in the middle of the back and there’s 6" of haft sticking out over our shoulders. The Dragon headed polearms from MoP are perfect as is the Hellreaver but most of these polearms are held where they would be held if they were throwing spears, not where you’d hold them to swing.
Please adjust this, it would make so much more of the great polearms usable for xmog and make so many more of the weapon designer’s beautiful work worthwhile (this is also a major issue on all the scythes).

Well, the lead hand is in the right position but not the other hand should be farther apart to balance the weapon in order to swing a two handler.

Probably has to do with graphical clipping, or some compromise that was made in order to tmog across different weapon types. 2 guesses pulled right out of nowhere to think about.

I ask myself this question about shields. Why do 99% of the races hold their shield way off to the side or in some weird position?

I’m fairly certain the grip is so high because they originally recycled staff animations for polearms.
It feels like polearms were a last-minute addition in vanilla WoW. They’re probably the rarest weapon type, they cost the most to train, and they’re trained at a later level than normal weapons. The last minute-ness is likely the reason they’re just spiky staves instead of actual polearms. Blizz should update them.

well ignoring the fact that it’s a game and anything can be anything,
in the real world balance with weapons is really important. like it’s why swords can have extended hilts and weighted pommels or artsy sculpted metal down there. otherwise you are swinging a bat.
same would go for pole-arms.
