Why is the fishing weekly only available on one day of the week?

Why is the fishing weekly only available on one day of the week, when all other weekly quests can be completed or progressed any day of the week?

WoW moved away from daily quests to weekly quests specifically to give players more flexibility in completing them and to not be “punished” (I use the word loosely) for not being able to play the game for a day or two (or more).

“It’s meant to be evocative of the STV fishing event”

I’ve heard this said. But the STV fishing event was a real, live competition. It had to be at a specific date and time in order to be what it was. Instead the Hallowfall fishing weekly copies the worst parts of the STV fishing event (which were necessary) while omitting the part that (a real competition) that made those frustrating parts necessary. Even the 1-hour timer to complete it is false urgency.

“The Hallowfall event is a competition, you’re competing with other players for fishing pools!”

There’s no competition. Currently, you have 24 hours to complete it, so you can pick any time when there’s the least competition for pools. Too many people around? Log off and wait or hop to a different realm, maybe a pool will appear in front of you when you do.

Also, fish are infinite. While a pool may contain finite fish, pools themselves are infinite in quantity and fish are infinite since you don’t have to catch them in a pool. You can just fish them up in open water. Even the rare ones, which usually have another fish that gives you a buff basically guaranteeing you can catch it in open water.

I was busy yesterday and didn’t have time to play the game, so no 25 derby marks for me. Yet I have all week to complete all the other weekly quests, but this one is an outlier for no real reason.

If the Hallowfall was a real competition like the STV event, I’d understand. I’ve never really been able to compete in the STV one since its inception, but I’ve never complained about it. It makes sense why it is the way it is. It has a reason. The Hallowfall event is really just another weekly quest like all the other, except I can only do it on Saturday for some inexplicable reason. Imagine if the weekly dungeon quest could only be completed on Wednesday.

You’re right.

They should make it so that only 1 person can win, every week.

Would that make you happy?

It’s supposed to be a callback to the classic Booty Bay fishing tourney. And yeah, only one person could win that so thankfully it’s not a 1 for.1 recreation.

And the Kalu’ak fishing derby afterwards.

But if the OP is that bothered by multiple people winning, they should demand that Blizzard limit it to 1 winner per week.

Instead… Blizzard does everyone a favor by making sure multiple people can win. And what do people do? They complain, of course.

because far too many trolls work at blizzard

this doesn’t work - you lose the buff if you log off

It is surprising you (the person who complained about dailies because you might miss playing a day) aren’t supportive of OP’s desire for more flexibility.

I think they make a valid point - why only one day.

Because the fishing derbies have always been on Saturdays.

You might not like it, but that’s obviously the reason.

Dailies were always daily until they werem’t

Dailies are still daily.

Sure. Either make it that with a commensurate reward, or a regular weekly quest.

It doesn’t have commensurate rewards, it has extravagently excessive rewards compared to the previous fishing contests.

And - unlike those - you retain all your progress from week to week! Not just the currency, but also your progress on the mount achievement.

You WILL get ALL OF THE REWARDS given time. There’s zero pressure.

And what is your response? You complain.

My god, people. Are you even looking at yourselves, these days?

This isn’t a fishing derby though. You can do it any time of the day you want and there’s no winner or competition.

Nothing you said has anything to do with why it’s limited to only Saturday. It could be available to complete any day of the week and nothing would change, except more people would do it.

I complain because you can only do it on Saturday and there’s zero compelling reason for that to be the case.

oh so you were complaining about nothing last expansion when people wanted the WQ to go back to daily format

Only their complaining is allowed. And they literally complained about the same thing last expansion. They didn’t want WQ’s to appear daily because they might miss a day - they wanted the flexibility of being able to pick a day to do them.

World quests are not dailies. Please read.

But if everyone can win, then why does it matter that everyone does it on Saturday? They already changed it so you can do it any time of day, so what is lost by making it so you can also do it any day of the week?

The thing that made it special (1 specific hour, once a week, one winner) is already gone.

They appeared daily until people like you complained about missing a day.

With any fishing competition in the game, the competition is the availability on the pools. By having the players do it at the same time competing for the same resources, is in fact the competition.

I wouldn’t mind a few weekly quest in addition to this.
