Why is the Alliance fighting the Scarlet Crusade?

Sure… we find out in the end they’re being controlled by a demon. But their intentions to hamstring the forsaken should make them an Alliance unfriendly faction or at best neutral for humans. Doesn’t make sense to make war on your enemies enemy when they’ve never struck at you.
Alliance only see the Scarlets in SW as amiable clerics attempting to cleanse the undead. But one guy in an inn says otherwise and sends you off to kill the leaders. It would be nice to earn a special reputation with them similar to Ravenholdt or Bloodsails.

They’re not as nice as you’re portraying them here. Think of them as the Spanish Inquisition.

Yes, they do attack the Forsaken, but they also do a lot of assault, kidnapping, and murder of Alliance citizens.

they’re racist zealots that attack the alliance because the alliance has allied itself with non-humans and because they are being by a demon who wants to sow distrust among both factions while also dealing with the scourge

i thought they thought the alliance was evil too and were attacking them

Zealots yes. Racist? Sure, but everyone in Azeroth is a racist on the scale, just some differ in degrees. Kids have a hard time understanding that today.

One of the two alliance quests for SM pretty much answers your question. You start out naively helping out the scarlet crusade, and are then sent to talk to someone who has seen how “evil” they are and are tasked with taking out their leaders.

The Scarlet Crusade is pretty much the Spanish Inquisition. The whole story behind the Crusade is that they’ve gone completely insane and have been corrupted beyond help. They can’t tell the difference between a Human and an undead, that’s why they attack everyone.

One guy’s perspective. When the Alliance is dealing with the Horde encroaching upon Southshore/Stormgarde in the north. Cataclysm confirms that they ultimately take it over… it’s doesn’t make sense to attack an enemy of an enemy.

Imagine unironically bringing social justice to a game made in the early 2000s? What a concept!

“Innocent” men and women. One guy’s narrative and we wipe out an entire organization. Zero proof of any of it… this guy could have been exiled and wants revenge. We have no idea because the story doesn’t go any further.

Well, I think you’re also confusing the actions of the adventurer as actions of the alliance as a whole. You’re the naive person that was helping out some random scarlet crusade guy, and are then educated to think otherwise. It wasn’t an official hit on the crusade signed by the king or anything.

only person bringing social justice into this is you lol

I think that’s just lazy writing to include more dungeons for both factions. Even the quest text to kill them is just one man’s narrative. We’re just suppose to believe an entire faction attacking forsaken is somehow in need of destruction that Alliance personally go through Horde territory to kill them.

" I once served the Scarlet Crusade with honor, loyalty and pride. I believed their cause to be a noble one: to rid Azeroth of the undead.

But as I spent time at the Monastery in Tirisfal Glades I realized that their grasp on reality was slipping. They now think everyone is plagued who doesn’t wear the tabard of the Crusade. Innocent men and women were tortured because they were supposedly plagued.

The Scarlet Crusade must be crushed in the name of the Light. You, <name>, must destroy the deranged regime."

Undead is undead. It’s not as if there is any confusion on the matter. That’s why it was acceptable and why the priests in the Cathedral sent you to him.

You’re not sent to him by the cathedral, you’re sent to him by the scarlet crusade guy you helped who hasn’t realized he left the crusade because he was on kalimdor.

And “torturing innocent people” seems like as good a reason as any for our bright eyed adventurer to venture to SM and attack them. You don’t really have any reason to distrust the guy.

they were killing everyone since they thought they were all infected. like the enclave in fallout killing everyone who wasnt “clean”

Quest starts from a high ranking Scarlet member in Stormwind. That’s what I meant. The faction was still considered accepted in the Alliance at the moment.

I think it’s still a stretch for a bunch of adventurers to traverse into Forsaken territory to slay their enemies because they’re torturing people. I could understand if it was something similar to the Defias (In their backyard) but, the Scarlets are so far away and wouldn’t be considered an Alliance target until after the Forsaken were destroyed. That’s just my opinion.

Would have been better if we went to investigate and discovered it was true before just launching an adventure to kill a bunch of people wearing Scarlet uniforms.

Edit: The Horde has a clear goal to eliminate them. Because they’re attacking the Forsaken which a key member of the Horde. The Alliance at this point are still in good relations.

the scarlet crusade attacks anyone on sight…

murderhobo’s don’t need any excuse to do what they do
