So I can’t comment on the raid one, although I think the first slot comes at 2 bosses? But for the M+ and PvP slots why does the third cost more than the first 2?
For example the first M+ slot takes 1 dungeon, the second takes 3 more and the last takes 4 more. Similarly for PvP the first takes 1250 the second takes 1250 more and the third takes 2500 honor points.
Now obviously to maximize your choices and options you fill them all, but if you’re working on multiple characters it almost seems best to stop at the first or second slot.
I believe in theory it’s just diminishing returns to encourage those that are willing to put in the effort to do so, but to make it less punishing to those who don’t.
The other way to look at it is “I put in more effort, so I should get better deals on time vs effort efficiency” and maybe there’s a strong argument there as well.
But with things like Artifact weapons and HOA infinite grinds through to the current design. The amount of effort needed tends to increase much faster than the amount of rewards offered, so Blizzard went with the former design.
And as a casual player I like that, but it’s just my opinion.
I know raiding takes a lot more time then M+. Raiding unlock at 2,4 and 6 bosses. M+ being 1,4,8.
So really, M+ gets the 1st slot FASTER, but doing 8 M+ is only about 4 hours of play at an average of 30 mins a dungeon. To get 6 bosses down takes more then 4 hours right now for average guilds or isn’t even possible for some guilds.
Yeah, I didn’t feel qualified to comment or compare much for raids so thank you for the approximate timings.
I didn’t want to make it sound like this is some huge deal either, just kind of interesting to consider.
Once I get alts leveled I definitely see myself knocking out 1 or 4 mythics on each depending on my available time for the week. Four M+ and a little bit of solo shuffle for two PvP slots would give me a total of 4 items to pick from which is decent for only a few hours.
When considering only the great vault system, this is probably true for most groups. But it does leave out the fact that doing the raid also has a chance to grant you loot at the same item level as well, so it’s not quite an apples to apples comparison. A player on average will get more than 1 item per 6 raid bosses at item level X (where X = the level coming from the vault) when considering both drops and the great vault.
Whereas the great vault is the only way to get item level X gear meaning players will only get 1 item at level X per week. The key levels that offer item level X gear from the vault drops items less than level X.
So while the rate of gear of X quality from the vault is quicker in M+, that ceiling for number of drops at X quality is lower.
So does M+ if you do a high enough key? Not to mention, the new group loot system is garbage. 5+ people rolling on 1 item, yeah good luck getting loot.
the fact the stupid vault system is still in the game just angers me, god its such a poorly piece of crap that needs to go away, that was the one thing i hated the most in SL and i am still frustrated they brought it back.
Not when you also up the raid difficulty. The point is that the end of dungeon loot from M+ is a lower item level than the great vault slot earned via completion of that M+. Raid on the other hand rewards the same item level whether you’re considering the raid boss drop or great vault. The only way to earn mythic raid level gear from M+ is via the great vault, whereas groups killing mythic raid bosses have the chance for mythic raid loot from both the boss and the vault.
The chance to get loot from group loot is roughly the same as with personal loot, provided you need on everything the system allows. With personal loot everyone rolled on every boss without input from the player. At the end of the day, the same amount of loot is being distributed to the same number of players. Even if you get unlucky with an item, that means someone else in the raid got lucky with that item. You have just as much chance to be that lucky person as anyone else. In fact, if anyone chooses to pass or greed an item you need, that increases your chances compared to what it was under personal loot.
To be clear, there are differences in the loot under group loot, most notably on the social aspect. But the chances for you to get loot, unless you actively choose to pass (which then increases someone else’s luck), haven’t changed.
Indeed. For getting gear that’s pretty good M+ is certainly faster unless someone gets an unbelievable amount of luck with drops and rolls in raid. I was just trying to keep my reply as succinct and on topic as possible to minimize potential confusion. The great vault system has been designed as a bad luck protection system first and foremost, with a slow drip of great gear once per week for M+ and PVP players.
